CC : Somerset v Durham

Hot on the heels of our superb victory against Notts comes our trip to Ciderabad for our eleventh Chmpionship game of the 2024 campaign.

At the end of May Somerset were defeated in five sessions by an innings at the Riverside thanks to some inspired bowling from Ben Stokes but I can't imagine we'll be playing on a similar service at Taunton.

We currently stand in 5th place on 126 points while Somerset are in 2nd on 145 points some 35 points behind runaway leaders Surrey. No team news as yet but I imagine Jack Leach will be a shoe in after his 50 Over demolition job at the Riverside recently. Mind you it would be wonderful to see another repeat performance from our young guns McKinney and Hogg that we witnessed against the hapless Notts.

Weather looks set fair for the four days and we have our own @GordonMuchallNo1Fan making the long journey to Taunton for some on the spot analysis.

As ever Haway Durham !!

It will be interesting to see who will bowl. Well, Hogg get another run out two games in a row? Is Wagner available?

In the last match, De Leede 1 wicket and raine 4. They're going to have to do better.

Somerset are chasing wins to keep their slim title hopes alive. Given the pitch they prepared for our last championship visit there, another similar surface wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest, but then we’re far better equipped to bowl spin than last time and I dare say we’re also better equipped to bat against it.

Expect Ackermann and Bedingham to come back in if they’re available, quite possibly for Clark and De Leede - with Carse for Wagner if he’s allowed. If he’s not, Coggers perhaps.

Ha’way Durham!

4 isn’t bad at all when you consider one bloke took 8 on his own and another took 4 in the first dig.

If Wagner was fit I guess it would have been Carse v Hogg for the other bowling place in this game.

I have a feeling they would have gone with Carse.

Friend of over 20 years lives in Somerset, so win win to visit and take in the cricket. Head down Wednesday early evening, then take in the match and stay at friends house. Head home Sunday hopefully at a reasonable time as I have work on Monday morning.
Ideal if you’ve somewhere to stay, lad I went to uni with was from minehead, visited once and swore never again, him
And his dad got me the most drunk I’ve ever been on some “local” think it was home made cider,

Pissed the bed so not sure if I’m invited back either 🤣

I think the criticism of De Leede was a bit harsh. The spell he bowled after the not out controversy I thought was superb, really aggressive bowling that upset their players and staff

Not really sure what's going on with Bedders.

He was named in South Africa A squad vs Sri Lanka, at the beginning of August for their 3 match List A series. Which is 31st Aug,2nd and 4th Sept

So was surprised to see his name on our squad for Notts and you'd assumed he'd have just gone to South Africa rather than coming back here.

Perhaps he's been told he's not guaranteed to start and would rather play for us in CC and Blast.

Your guess is as good as mine, but given how shite Sri Lanka are, it would be better for his own game if he stayed here and played Championship cricket.

Of course that would mean prioritising Durham over his country and I don’t think politically that does him any favours.

And I’m pretty sure that if we hadn’t been chasing runs to get to a declaration, he’d have made 100.

Given that this is only his 2nd season in red ball cricket, he’s done a great job.

I mean they beat us in the World Cup so I dunno what that makes us
