Jack Clarke

Unfortunately, one of the first rule of economics is something/ someone is worth what people are prepared to pay for it/ them.

I get we love the lad, but if he was worth £30m, people would have been banging the door down if they could get him for £20m.
I made this point yesterday. People are assuming we just jumped all over the first offer we got. It's been widely known that Clarke and the club were open to offers this summer - 20m was the best offer. Hence his market value was determined to be 20m. I thought it should have been 25m - but I'm a SAFC and biased. Why do other fans find it so hard to consider their own bias? Total lack of awareness.

No, by my method we would have been the only people providing an offer to him as Ipswich would not have earned the right to provide him with an offer because they wouldn’t have matched our reasonable valuation.

£30m for a player of Clarks quality in this market is totally reasonable, and if nobody wants to play it then he remains our player.

We weren’t selling him on an auction, we don’t have to accept the highest bid for him.
We don't know that we didn't have to accept a bid over X from a PL side. We have no idea what the terms of Jack's contract were, nor do we know what agreements and promises had been made between the club and Jack. If Jack wanted the move - then we had to find a way to make it work. It wouldn't do the club any good to tell a player he isn't allowed to leave in this day in age - particularly when our whole business is developing young players. Until we hear valid reports that Jack didn't want to leave, wanted to sign a contract in our wage structure, but we wouldn't offer and sold him instead against he and his agent's wishes - then the only fair assumption to make is that Jack chose Ipswich over Sunderland. Be mad at Speakman or KLD or whatever - but the fact is Jack chose another club.
