This is why I’ll never be comfortable with the model

I’m must admit I’m pretty excited by Simic.

The French lad from Russia though - less so. At the end of the day we are shopping in that morally suspect market for a reason. The club believe they can sign a player on the cheap who might just go onto bigger things. It feels like another Aouchiche signing.

I appreciate what you're saying on the moral side of things with Isidor but im excited by him too, not as much as Simic ,but feel these two will do a job. With Clarke going I'm convinced Mendy will come also.

people have got to grasp that Sunderland have the biggest operational costs, infrastructure, Cat 1 academy with the same return from tv etc. as the likes of Oxford and Plymouth. Its a frugal approach to get us to the promised land as well as frustrating for fans losing your best players but we need to accept it, im sure we will get there hopefully sooner rather than later!

Until we are on a level playing field financially with the top tier its gonna happen

Most accept that mate but it doesn’t mean we should sell talent for less than market value.

If Palace are genuinely interested in Neil, then the sale of Clarke for £15m, may just make think a bid of £10m might now be successful.

People will point out after years of Jack Rodwell style signings it’s nice to see us making profits on players. First Stewart now Clarke. 2 out of 3 seasons now we have sold our best player. It might look good on the books and be financially good for the club but is this what you really want Sunderland football club to be? A club that sells its best players to clubs half our size. I was gutted when stewart left and i’m gutted clarke is leaving.

If KLD was owner when kevin phillips was here he would have flogged him after his first good season for profit.

Nice to make profit but better to build a team around our best players and keep them and let fans build connection with the players like quinn and phillips etc.

How well we spend the money i guess will tell us just how good the model is.
Look mate, face it. You're either a Mag or extremely f***ing dumb.

We've literally done what you're saying we should, we've held onto Clarke until he wanted out. You might be a 50 year old stuck in the past, but these players nowadays, when they say they want to go you let them go with best wishes.

Don’t get me wrong mate, I’d love Isidor to be a truly fantastic signing but it just feels like a cheap option.

Hopefully though, Mendy now arrives as well and we kick on

The thing is, he didn’t. He was settled but just wanted a contract in line with the likes of Ellis Simms etc.

The model was and is claptrap the gullible on here fall for. Same with 5 year plan . Along with the bullshit Instagram messages the prick sends out ( generally after fuck ups).

He never had a 5 year plan at all. He will buy then sell the better players, thus weakening the side .

Clarke was literally the only reason I enjoyed watching us last year , and the reason we are not in league 1.

Good post. This is life as a club with a successful transfer strategy. Other clubs want your players. The key is how do we reinvest the money.

And which clubs exactly who have been successful or are successful sell good players left, right and center for a few million?

Did Brentford do it? Did Sheffield United do it? Are Burnley doing it?

We don't even know what the model is. What is the point of it, exactly? What is it trying to gain?

I would include Brentford in being successful in that, given they're a much smaller club doing much better than we are based on that strategy. You also have Brighton, Palace, Bournemouth. Basically any club we would want to emulate.

And how exactly though does it work? How has it made these clubs so successful? What is happening for these clubs to move forward?

Word to appease the gullible , basically it.

Yet its buy and sell for profit. Thus one step forward one step back.

5 year plan therefore goes out the window, and be interesting how far the con mans plan has taken us in a couple more years.

We've known it for 3 years. We know they want to be self sustainable and sign young talent for peanuts and sell them for a massive profit

So why are some of you shocked and angry ? Has it come as a surprise ? Wether you agree with it, believe in it, it doesn't really matter as non of us can do anything about it.

The biggest thing I take from selling a player for a massive profit is they must reinvest it in to the squad if it makes us stronger then fair enough

As for jack good luck to the kid he's been absolutely phenomenal in a red and white shirt and single handedly win us many many games.

We moved on we've still got a lot of incredible young talent in the squad. The best young talent most of us have seen in decades.

Let's be honest after the poor campaign last season most of us expected many more of our young talent to move on. The fact that the majority of them are still here means we still have e a good shot at promotion

Jack Clarke will never be replaced as he gives us so much as an attacking threat and there's no one out there who will make as much a difference as he does.

However these young lads are incredibly talented and adding a forward or 2 might just make us stronger. Only time will tell. Let's just see how the window pans out.

I'm still super excited to watch this young exciting energetic squad this season.

16th again. We didn’t replace Stewart at all, we won’t replace Clarke either

Its not that hard to grasp. You sell an asset for a profit, and reinvest the money in 2 or 3 players who can improve the squad.

We will probably do the same next season. I have no problem as long as the squad is improved.

The issue was last season the signings were mostly shit.

I think in today's game the only way to grow is by being successful in the transfer market. Financial rules mean you can't just throw money at it all the time. There comes a time when you need to stop and watch what you spend. Likes of ipswich, forest, everton have all spent heavy over recent years with the last 2 now struggling financially to compete cos of spending restrictions. If ipswich don't turn some profits from sales they will be similar in a few years.

If we manage to earn promotion in the next few years (which isn't impossible) we'll be in a position to spend accordingly and not have to worry about long term pressures. We will always sell a big asset then reinvest. Sustainable growth is the only way to climb towards the top of the premier league. Even take the mags as an example, spent heavy, got themselves a champions league spot - yet have had to cut back this summer.

Our approach won't be a fast track back to the premier league, but i'd be confident of us being better placed to stay there once we do get back

Roll back to last summer . On a high after end to the season, spent absolutely fuck all . Ipswich newly promoted and showed a bit ambition

1 year down the line they are getting our best player for 15 f***ing million

Says it all about this owner

Selling your better players to bring in others and develop them. Isn’t this exactly what Brighton have done successfully over the years?

Not great seeing good players go but here we are!
Difference is Brighton and Brentford use the money to upgrade their standard of player and replacements each time.

We dilute the quality with a load of bairns and go backwards! 🙄
