Jack Clarke

exactly. Its noticeable as well that the offer is from ipswich..we seem to have gone from lazio and newcastle looking at him,...to ipswixh..I dont think there are a queue of clubs out there that want him

Palace are the only club I’d actually worry about in terms of a) it being an attractive move for him; b) them understanding enough about football to actually assess his quality; c) them needing a winger; d) having the balls to spend big on championship talent (which connects with b).

Wouldn't be surprised to see Palace get involved with Ayew leaving them. They were looking for a winger before that anyway.
I don't know why, Palace has always felt like a very natural destination for him.

Anyway - it's impossible to keep up with this thread it seems, so what's the latest? We still selling to Ipswich like we were this afternoon, or everything chilled out?

Quick question about something I don't know.

If Clarke does end up going for £25m, I know we will get the money for him in installments over the course of his contract by amortisation. Does the sell on fee we owe to Spurs get spread out over the course of the contract as well or do we have to pay that straight up?
Amortisation is just an accounting term isn't it? Spreading his cost over the length of the contract. We could receive the fee all at once.

West Ham or Brentford might tick these boxes too, but seems they’ve gone elsewhere.
west ham certainly have bigger aspirations than clarke/the championship these days..
palace are notoriously good at recruitment and flush right now..

I’m not sure where this “Clarke does not want to go to Ipswich” came from.

I can assure you this is not true.

Premier league football.
Huge wage increase.
Moving to a club with serious ambition.
Outstanding manager to learn from.

Or stay at Sunderland

Very average wage
Championship football
Unstable club
Another new manager that might not last the season.

Facts.

We will try and get as much up front as possible. Spurs sell on will be payable on our sale of him I expect.

You still here?

You’ve tried this three times and no one cares.

Amortisation is just for the accounts of the buying club, how we get paid is basically our decision on what offer we accept, generally you get more for taking it spread over x years. Sell in fee should be paid straight away, but it’s only x% over the amount we paid for 99.9% of deals and again if we wanted to split it over 2 years I’m sure spurs would just say that’s fine but we want extra.

The position we are in we should hold out for big mi he and cash up front he’s still got 2 years and without him we have a much smaller chance of promotion so that’s got to be worth extra.

They just signed Summerville! And Bowen before that. Point is - there aren’t many clubs that spend big on championship talent when the continent is cheaper.

But West Ham do. Just in this case they signed a different championship winger.

Scuba -now showing his true colours ?
Will end up back in the Championship likely next season
Will be at left back most games -doubling up to cover defensively
Moving further away from home
Loved here -by team mates and fans already
We can all come up with reasons why he would want to be at our clubs

And of course your assurance is totally devoid of any credibility too.
What not is in dispute is that Clarke loves his football up here and he may not be as greedy or ambitious as you make out

summerville had premier league experience and, rightly or wrongly, a much higher profile than clarke...
bowen was four years ago...

if he isnt ambitious its important we sell him while we still can...we need ambitous players to be an ambitious club...

Clarke is a homebody. He didn't like living down south before. He likes knocking about York and getting down to the golf club.

I’m not sure if that is the case or not of course but he was tempted by all the positives you state as a youngster from Leeds and his career stalled for 3 years.

Football is a fickle mistress and I have no clue what Jack Clarke feels but once bitten and all that.
