Jack Clarke

Do we not think it'd a bit coincidental after Harte was prostituting him and Clarke to Leeds they've got a winger come in suddenly Ipswich have randomly come in for a bid?

Exactly marra.

I’m not at all convinced he’s off. I think his agent is getting desperate that most suitors are not prepared to pay the fair rate for Clarke. So he’s briefing all sorts of crap and hoping something turns up.

It also puts pressure on for a plan B new contract.

They offered £17m earlier this month apparently which was knocked back.

My worry with Southampton is the did this with Stewart and then on deadline day came up with an acceptable offer.

Southampton is my biggest concern as well.

Its all a bit of a mess by all accounts. So....

A contract has been verbally agreed, but not actually signed yet. Harte is advising JC to hang fire until we see what happens at the end of the window.

Jack is still more than happy here, he loves being at SAFC and would never force a move, but also wants to play in the PL and ideally would love it be with us.

I'd mentioned before that we'd turned down bids from Ipswich earlier in the summer, and they've come back with another (slightly) higher offer, but J isnt interested in going there.

The Leeds stuff was rubbish.
Sensible lad. Never thought he'd end up at Leeds (or any other Championship club). What's the point?

Premiership is a different matter. Last year the three promoted clubs came straight back down. I suspect Ipswich will too, and the bookies seem to agree - 2nd favourite for the drop. Jack can do better in my humble ...

I think we need to tell Clarke and his agent that if an acceptable offer doesn't arrive by a certain date then he's not for sale. We can't have this dragging on into deadline day then scrambling around trying to find a replacement.

I don’t want to say he’s irreplaceable, in a team game everyone is replaceable, but selling him for less than £30 million would be crackers & makes the prospect of progression this season a lot less likely. Seems an odd one for Ipswich based on their system from last season - feels like they’re just stockpiling assets for when they come down.
That’s exactly what they are doing. If Harte considers that to be in the best interests of his clients then Clarke needs to be considering his own off field options

This is exactly what I would do.

Putting aside your misuse of the term “logical fallacy”, I can offer plenty of supporting evidence to support my premise.

All of those players I listed have been seen in a Sunderland shirt. Most for a fair old chunk of games. None are good enough. It’s a (long) list of demonstrably bad signings.

And “well they may come good at some point in the future” doesn’t hold as a counter-point, because these were NOT players signed for the academy/development squads. Every single one of them was signed as a first team footballer, and went in to the first team squad.

And to your second point - I simply dont accept the premise that we “have to….sign low cost youngsters”. So the rest is inconsequential.
Lad you talk some shite
