Wilson Isidor - compendium thread

Mate, it’s a hugely risky market to be involved in. Due to the sanctions in place, the likes of the foreign office will be extremely keen to understand any deal.

Personally, I prefer our club not to be dealing with a club that is owned by Gazprom and therefore has links to a truly abhorrent regime.

The foreign office has nothing to do with it. UK sanctions are policed by Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, which is part of the Treasury.

But again - there is no sanctions issue here.

I love how people on a football forum with absolutely no legal knowledge whatsoever are implying were breaking rules.

Yet the club who are involved with the transfer, have a legal department, don't know what they're doing.

Ffs if this deal has been agreed we won't be breaking any rules.

Blackburn signed a player on loan from Russia last year. He ended up joining for free on a permanent deal.

Doesn't seem there's anything stopping a loan deal whatsoever.
He enacted a FIFA rule which meant he could suspend his contract in Russia while the conflict was ongoing. That rule only ran until June this year, FIFA haven't extended it.

A free loan is possible I guess, but still complicated.

Find it very hard to understand how this all goes ahead legally given it'd involve a transfer of money to a company majority-owned by the Russian state. It'd be pretty shit sanctions regime if that was just totally fine, let's face it.

Different sanctions regime though innit
That would become an issue if the option to buy was taken up and it would be hard to argue that any transfer fee is assisting the war effort or enriching sanctioned individuals. Also the player isn't a commodity so there may be an exemption or license clause within the sanctions regime that protects his human rights.

Personally, I think signing him would be a PR disaster and it would be interesting to see how the fans taking a moral stance against the mags Saudi deal will react to this. If they're not just a bunch of envious hypocrites, I'd expect them to let their feelings be known every time he touches the ball.

I think this bloke was our Head of Legal during the Ricky Alvarez transfer

I think if there was something that would hinder the deal in relation to Russia the club would've known. I know some on here question their ability but they arent stupid enough to pursue and agree a deal and then only later realise we can't go through with it due to them being Russian.
I'd guess if there is any transaction involving money it will be held in a bank account until sanctions are lifted or paid into a Zenit bank registered in Switzerland or something. Maybe even some backhand stuff from Kyril to the russians, think he has a history of working alongside them in the past tbh

I’m sure we would have given someone at UEFA a text or summat.

"Hi, Aleks, your old mate Kristjaan here, we want to sign a player from Russia, just checking that is ok"

"I have no idea who you are or how you got this number but it's OK for European teams to sign players from Russia as long as the correct form is completed, please dont contact me again, you are now blocked"
