Wilson Isidor - compendium thread

Not as desperate now as Mayenda will be on a wave of confidence but it would be nice if he was signed in time for next game. Assuming he's match fit of course.

If Mendy does sign I can see it being like Proveda. That is, not fit to play for a while.

Might be getting around the sanction thing by paying the player directly his wages and then the option to buy is buying out his personal contract rather than a fee owed to the club.

Find it very hard to understand how this all goes ahead legally given it'd involve a transfer of money to a company majority-owned by the Russian state. It'd be pretty shit sanctions regime if that was just totally fine, let's face it.

Different sanctions regime though innit
Maybe he comes here on loan with no fee paid and puts him in the shop window to move somewhere on the continent next summer?

Sadly it can. At the end of the day we are signing a player from a club that is owned by Gazprom.

Which is entirely above board.

Gazprom are not on the UK assort freeze list. Neither are Gazproms legal or controlling owners.

Nothing about this deal is subject to UK sanctions, they’ll just need to arrange the banking chain correctly to make sure no listed intermediary banks are involved - which would be straightforward with any half decent advice/planning.

This would all also be being done in consultation with OFSI.

Unless we’re also buying and importing half a dozen barrels of Russian crude oil in the deal, there is no issue.

It's the UK sanctions on Russia which would be the problem though, so French examples aren't particularly relevant.
Blackburn signed a player on loan from Russia last year. He ended up joining for free on a permanent deal.

Doesn't seem there's anything stopping a loan deal whatsoever.

There has been a few examples of Russia getting around the sanctions. I believe car imports and exports through Afganistan from Russia increased dramatically after sanctions?
Chinese car makers have taken the slack from 'Russian made' cars.

No problem buying Russian stuff from China or Afghanistan 🤔

Where there's a will, there's a way 🙄

Seems a bit over the top to me this view like.

Mate, it’s a hugely risky market to be involved in. Due to the sanctions in place, the likes of the foreign office will be extremely keen to understand any deal.

Personally, I prefer our club not to be dealing with a club that is owned by Gazprom and therefore has links to a truly abhorrent regime.
