Jack Clarke

I'm not doubting his commitment, but in general players don't ask to leave as they lose out on their 'loyalty bonus' if they do.
Aye but you can ask to leave without actually asking to leave. Not putting effort in at training, half arsing it on the pitch, generally stinking the gaff out with your attitude so that your club just want rid of you etc.

Clarke has been the opposite of that though, he’s one of the biggest grafters we have in the pitch. Great attitude, never sulks. He’s f***ing class and I’ll be thoroughly gutted if we lose him.

I am a happy clapper, but I honestly think we’re a decent striker and maybe a defensive mid away from promotion atm (so long as we don’t have the injury problems we had last year again).

Leeds just sold rutter to Brighton for £30m. They’ve got some money to spend. Baton down the hatches

You do realise that when someone signs a player they don't sign a cheque for £30m and send it in the post. It will be paid over multiple seasons.

They also paid an absolute fortune for Rutter aswell so it might just about cancel it out as no doubt they haven't finished paying that transfer off.

That depends on the selling club agreeing to spreading the cost.
We own the player.
If they want him, they meet our terms.
Speakman has a lot of faults, but I bet he plays hardball in situations like that, when we hold all the cards.

They’ll probably be looking to buy a forward to replace Rutter. Hopefully having to spend decent money on a striker will make the Clarke fee too steep.
We may buy a striker though it won't be for big money as we have Joseph, Piroe and Bamford. Rutter wasn't played as a striker but rather a 10. We will replace him, bring in a replacement for Summerville and a replacement for Kamara in midfield and cover at LB. I expect at least 3 of them to be buys and maybe 1 prem loan. We've lost 50 goals/assists with sales of Rutter and Summerville so Clarke fits the profile but who knows if it gets done. If not my guess is Rowe or Benson

Won't you play Gelhardt at 10 ?

Leeds are going to have to do an awful lot between now and the end of the window, whatever happens with Clarke, even just to stand still from the squad they played the play off final with

I’m not sure how much debt they had/have but after the Rutter sale that’s about €160m they’ve recouped this summer in player sales.

So far they’ve only spent €18m

Sure I read they had to stump up nigh on £80m that became due on previous transfers in June this year. It's possible that their ongoing fire sale isn't entirely without reason.
