Retirement

Put a bit extra into my S&S last night and it's cleared through today, good time to invest a bit id say as this will recover...
You can never time the market , who knows what lies ahead , they say it’s all about time in the market not timing it

I’ve got 10k built up to put into the missus pension , hoping to retire in say 2 year , best to put in a cash isa or s+s isa ?

Totally agree mate but was a big pull back 2days ago so it made sense for me, mine is staying for many years.

If only stashing for 2years then you can still get close to 5% on a 2years fixed cash isa, removes any volatility in S&S for you if definitely withdrawing in 2years time.

Bunged it in S&S isa still , about 25% of her pension stuff is in bank accounts anyway , it’s too much cash

I’ve attending retirement planning and pension session in a couple of weeks at work, organised by our HR team and ran by Newcastle Building Society. To help those staff approaching “offboarding” or like me, want to look at options available if approaching the 85 year rule.

I’ll have 30 years service in two years time, and my age then (56) will be that mark.

Worth checking ESR for people who were on the 1995 scheme before moving over. Seems they've added the extra 7 years onto the projection as per the McCloud ruling. God bless the fire service and all those who picketed. 8-)

I've tried retiring once, 2 years ago. I last a year before the CoL kicked in and along with energy prices kicked in a nd scared me back to work.

At the age of 61, I have a full army pension and 14 years worth of Teachers pension and feel that I've earned the right to retire, but as I'm a renter, I'm vulnerable the "shocks" that we seem wide open to as a country.

My current job is a quite dangerous and unpleasant HMPPS job and as it has 12 hour shifts incl nights, it's really tough at my age. I've now applied for a teaching role at a local prison.

If I get the new job, I'm hoping that a couple of years to let Labour put some things right and some more savings and pension contributions, should be enough to give retirement another go.

Ok I remember ISA from when I was a lad.Government ran,nee tax?

That's right. No tax on any investment gains or dividends - at least not until a Chancellor decides to fiddle with the rules to raise some money. There has been some talk on putting a cap on the maximum you can hold in ISAs. Currently there is only a maximum annual subscription but there will be people with hundreds of thousands in Cash and S&S ISAs and not paying any tax on them.

Cheers, think I missed the boat on that then.

There are many isa millionaires, wish I’d been a bit more switched on earlier in life
