Chris Rigg

Annoying that Sunderland hardly played the lad last season and decided he needed to be protected
Thank goodness they have woken up and realised if he’s good enough he’s old enough.
Most realise this lad is special and needs games now.

The pass for the goal was great but how well he brought it down on his right foot and how quick he was to shift it over the top is what created it. Clarke's on the run as soon as he's killed the ball dead, if Rigg waits a second longer like most players would do then it's gonna be a lot harder to find him.

So so good.

Huge congratulations to his parents, who have put the long term development of their son's career first, ahead of making a short term decision to get as much cash as possible!

Imagine being stuck in the u23s at a prem club for a couple of years and then probably being sent out on loan......compared to the standing ovation he got when he was subbed.
Great post and absolutely spot on

I bet the whole family are on cloud 9 tonight and deservedly so

And what a hero for the young kids to aspire to

I think his appearances, minutes and position last season were all just about right. He more than 'hardly played' and did need protecting to an extent.

This season he is physically stronger in terms lasting games and in battles with the opposition, so would say he should get 25-30 starts.

I still think we need to careful with him. We were right to be cautious last season. If we were over cautious is up for debate, but chucking him in out of sheer desperation wouldn't have been right.

It was the right thing to do imo. Ease him in. Was hardlys the ideal environment for a relative child to be thrown into.

I agree we still need to be careful and look after the lad.
Having said that though the lad seems strong as an ox and the physical side of things doesn’t seem to be an issue at all in fact he relishes it.

He's taller (yes young lads grow) that when he made his debut and I'm glad we are not shunting him out wide or playing the Bellingham no.10 role.

He has the potential to be a top box to box midfielder who can score goals.

I think he'll play (and start) a decent number of games this year in yesterday's starting positon.Neil and Browne will have bad games, injuries and suspensions as will Rigg so I still think we need 4 players in that position, assuming Ekwah goes/cant be arsed.

Disagree, I think they got it right

This season, he will need to be looked after. Very sensible to start him but take him off most weeks after 70 mins or so. He will also need the odd game rest here and there

They got it spot on last season with Rigg and I hope his game time is managed as well this campaign. Actually a bit more caution with Jobe’s minutes wouldn’t go amiss because last year at times he looked as though he was treading water. They are both kids with talent and need to be nurtured through to become mature footballers not flogged to death by being overplayed.
