Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

I think we have to keep haggling, I don't think it's worth moving on to someone who is not particularly on our radar over the sake of this relatively small valuation difference.

It'll take ages to get to the same point with an alternative, who might not be as desperate to sign. This is referring to am experienced permanent arrival btw, not a loanee. The time to chase that alternative is gone, we've waited this long and we're going to have to see it out.
My worry with the latest thing you’ve kindly reported from Caen, is that it doesn’t seem a particularly small valuation difference.

If they want £2.5mn and we are at 800k it’s a massive gap and the new owners don’t seem too keen to get a deal done.

Needs resolving asap, as putting our eggs in one basket is not a great strategy and we’ll end up with no one/last minute loan deal like Burstow again.

Tbf we haven’t a clue what’s going on, we might have upped our bid and they’re firm on the £4m, we just dont know, we’ll know at the end of the window if we’ve got him or not.

Might as well shut the message board down till September then mate?

Andy is finding out info from sources as close to the deal as you can get. Take it for what it is and have a discussion or don’t, it’s up to you.

But surely if we don’t think he’s worth what they are wanting then we should be moving onto someone else mate?
Agree bud, and my point a few days ago was we may well be onto somebody else, they seem to play their cards, certainly from our side very close to their chests, so we really are debating this on the back of news reports coming out of France.

Pretty sure they are resigned to it, actively looking for replacements and they've been in charge for awhile now and he hasn't budged.

The current status quo is shite for all involved, and we can't quibble about the same price that we played for Hjelde for a striker who has scored 60 in 3 seasons.

It certainly is but thank you for your kind advice, if I may give you some in return, stop getting stressed about something you can’t influence one iota, honestly you’ll feel so much better for it.

I’m not stressed to be fair. I’m looking forward tomorrow, spending day with friends and family. My expectations from KLD/Speakman on the striker front are rock bottom, so I am not expecting much from them.

You’re on a messageboard saying “to be fair we don’t know about this or that” - if we were limited to things we only know as fact, it wouldn’t be much point in coming out to discuss things. I never see the point in people coming to a messageboard to say that. Just don’t open the thread or scroll on.

We’ll see what comes out in the wash and I’m sure the thread will continue with opinion and speculation along the way.

Do you mean much choice - as in move on, or keep haggling?

I get all the “get the best deal” etc. but don’t lose sight of the big picture. If this guy is the one they want and they think he’s worth up to say £2.5mn. It’s time to put the money down. It’s becoming obvious they aren’t going to be lowballed.

Up to Sunderland now, go in with what you’re prepared to pay and give it a deadline for next week. Then we’ve got to move on…
Fully agree. If he’s only on £7.6k then such wealthy owners could just hoy him in the reserves and hope his pet lip goes back in at some point.

no one actually knows details of the deal outside of the club imo.

BUT we do know that SAFC have identified a lad who they think can do a job in an area we are crap in, what we have done is alerted everyone else who is in the market for the same player, and who might decide it's worth paying a bit more to fill the gap.

Unless caen are taking the piss we are crackers to potentially miss out, and why would they drop their price nearer to the transfer window being closed? it becomes a sellers market, not a buyers.

we need a plan B, and a plan C, sharpish.

Exactly mate

To be fair, I can understand the thinking - run it right to the wire and hope they'll blink. Under normal circumstances it's good business.

These are not normal circumstances though. If we get to deadline day having lost a few games then the crowd will already have turned and any goodwill will be gone.

Just pay the money.
