if we had any ambition he'd fit the model perfectly.

But it isn't as simple as a goal ratio. Who knows what else he brings to the game, he might run the channels constantly, create space for others, he might be lightning quick and put defences on the back front, he might be brilliant at holding up, he might work non stop, closing people down helping the team. Who knows what the recruitment have seen. Carrick clearly wants him.
Niall Quinn played his entire career and finished with around 1 in 4 but was deemed an excellent striker. Mark Hughes the same. Liverpool bought Firmino for big money and his goal stats were very average. More to it.
A decent striker. Mendy seems promising, 20 goals at a fairly low level is certainly better than 5.
I don't think we should be going for a very average trouble maker who seems completely over priced going into the last year of his contract.
You're comparing apples to oranges.
The 3 players you are mentioning were multiple internationals playing at the top level of English football.
The vast majority of players have a far better scoring rate outside the top flight. Roughly twice as many. By those figures your new man would score 2 or 3 from open play all season in the Premier League.

No, you are missing the point, you are judging a striker purely on a scoring rate. Plenty of players deemed to be good strikers score 10 goals a season. That's the point.
Combined with the fact he is only 22 anyway, and will likely improve, you don't know enough about him or his game to look at one stat and decide he is rubbish.

I didn't say he was rubbish. I said his stats were.
Apparently he isn't quick (a handful of Bristol fans say so), he isn't good in the air looking at his stats (don't think I saw a headed goal and arial challenges won minimal).
He may have other attributes, I wouldn't know. On paper he looks a very average signing for the money but he may come good.
