Tommy Conway - Mutants

He seems a very good signing to replace Latte-Lath whenever he's injured or in need of a 'rest'.

For £4.5m, and at 22 years old, it seems like the risk is low on Conway, with his record in this league, at a bang average club in Bristol City.

Think he'll do well.

People on here will be fuming to hear us say it, but you can't help but feel jealous about Boro's owner. Local lad who has always backed the club. Got it wrong plenty (we do that without the cash tbf) but they're constantly ambitious on/ off the field.

The ideal would be to take that backing he gives them and couple it with a good data led strategy/ a strong scouting network - which was our "ambition"
You're right, he has made mistakes with his recruitment in the past (not just with players), but with Keiran Scott now on board (and with Carrick's input) we seem to be recruiting really well.
Much more of a good feeling about Boro's direction these days
His record is absolutely bang average.
So was Chuba Akpoms, until he played under MC.

You don't seem able to attract even a half decent striker to be fair

I'm not saying you've attracted a half decent striker. You may have, you may have paid over the knocker for a dud.

Akpom, like Vardy ironically is probably a once every 20 year thing.

Being a bog standard striker and suddenly becoming a goal every other game man is rare as hen's teeth.

We had it twenty years apart with Kevin Phillips and Ross Stewart.

If we'd signed a striker who'd scored 20 goals in 80 games and was in the last year of his contract for £4.5M I'd be shocked.

Obviously I'd give him a chance but I'd be slightly worried about his scoring percentage and definitely thinking Bristol had our eyes out.

Delighted we don't follow the Boro 'model'.

They have spent 1 season in the Premier League in the last 15 years. Aspirational stuff.

Weird post.

They’re a much smaller club than us, but in my lifetime have won a domestic trophy, played in Europe more than once and have reached the final of the UEFA Cup.

I can only speak to myself but yes - I do aspire to that for my club. Credit to their owners’ ambition - which took them to places we’ve never been, and clearly still persists.

You call my post weird.

They won the League Cup over 20 years ago. In the 20 years since, they have had 1 top half Premier League finish, and spent 14 seasons in the Championship, most of which they weren't even competitive in.

You are constantly negative about Sunderland, yet think Boro are something to aspire to.

He is decent, glad we got him, gives us options and back up to Latte Lath. Hull chairman said last week that Hull, Sheff Utd and Leeds had spoke to him. Time will tell.

I think their owner’s ambition is something to aspire to.

That level of ambition, at a club this size, would be very welcome (and considerably more effective).

And yes - given that Boro supporters have seen their team at levels we never have, your post was weird.

None of the City fans I’ve heard talking about him seem that arsed about the prospect of him leaving.

I stand corrected. I hope we can manage that level of mediocrity someday.
