except they did and he chose us? a saudi club, sampdoria, us and a egyptian club. Celtic were after him in 2022 also.
 
I just keep getting this scene in my head of Speakman sitting at his desk, all smug faced, telling Dodds that Caen will buckle and take our lowball offer.

Fast forward to the day after deadline day and Speakmans polit out a statement saying we tried, bit couldn't get our targets over the line. Also mentions that Jobe is a competent No.9 whilst last seasons strikers are progressing rapidly.

Certainly don't want those thoughts becoming a reality!
 
Not sure why a few are having pop at his club, ultimately he belongs to them
The guy scores over 20 goals a season and they asking for allegedly around 5 million in cold light of day that’s a good price for a forward who scores goals
For perspective Boro are signing Conway for just short of that he scored 11 goals last year
We are the issue here we either need ti put up or shut up, if you want him go and get him, I’d say that fee is reasonable, why should they lower it, it’s us that wants him

What is the fee wanted and what did we offer?

Conway is 21 and can get away with that fee, Mendy is 30, should be nowhere near 5m, 3m at the max

That’s not how fees are calculated though. Conway is 22, so in theory they could be signing a player for 10-15 years, or sell for a profit when he may be hitting his peak in 3/4 years. Then you’ve got to take away the value of the contract that the buying club needs to break. It couple be apples & oranges.
