Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Bit of a controversial opinion here but... why don't we pay the 2.5 mill they wanted 6 weeks ago and have a striker in the team whose settled in and match fit ready for the new season. Every point and every league game counts.

Haggling over a striker, but nutted stupid money on endless shite the last few windows.

Pay the money and get it done ffs.

Tbf so far we've won 100% of our league games so it's cost us zero points

I will answer and yes, if he is the player we have identified to solve a problem that ruined our entire last season then and that’s what his price is. We’ve been trying to sign him all summer
Not avoiding the question at all. Yes we should have made an improved offer and negotiated/concluded a deal 4 weeks ago.
fair enough: at least you’re both willing to say it.

I personally think their proposed asking price is too high for a 30 year old who has never played in England, with no resale value. That’s just my opinion.

Its about his value to them, I guess. He's scored a lot of goals for them. 5 mill is high, but there has to be middle ground somewhere. My main gripe is how long it's taking.

People always have differing opinions man, just the way of the world 👌

Well if that's the clubs opinion they should move on to another target in the meantime.
For the sake of two weeks? He’s our top target and we have waited this long….we should have some back up plans we can revisit if we reach the end of the window and they won’t budge. Getting a PL loan in now would maybe help too.

I think a lot of this comes down to impatience and fans “wanting it done” whatever the cost.

That’s it though isn’t it? We could sign him and he could top the scoring charts, or not be able to adapt. They could keep him and he could keep banging them in, or be right massive hassle and put no effort in. It’s a gamble either way, just about finding out what makes the gamble worthwhile in terms of the fee.

The club clearly do, because they haven’t met the bid and they haven’t moved on to other targets.

I have no idea, but I can see the logic that 2m quid is better than a player who isn’t interested/pissed off ag the club for denying him his move.
So let’s think if say Crystal Palace offered us £8m for Jack Clarke would we take it if (and I know this would not happen but..) if he decided to sit out training sessions

Isnt it basic negotiating skills to take it to the wire, see if other bids come in, try to get the bidder to offer more?

Only way out for us is to make them an offer they cant refuse - which so far obviously we are not prepared to do

Just have to trust Dreyfus and Speakman. They've already shown they have the ability to drive through a great deal to get their man, like with their long term number one head coach target Will Still. Along with their strikers targets in January and last summer, outstanding.
As far as I can recall, all of our good signings happened out of the blue and quickly…not much time between rumor and signing.

Amad maybe the exception, but that was a loan.

Only time will tell. I wish we had one already but we haven’t and they know things we don’t. We either wait and hope or lose the plot and make ourselves and other posters miserable.
