Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

The hope on Wearside is that Mendy’s determination to move to Sunderland will eventually lower Caen’s demands. They are willing to go higher, but won’t go near Caen’s asking price, at least not yet. Sunderland believe time pressure caused by the ticking clock of the transfer deadline will break Caen’s resolve and result in a price somewhere in the £2m-£2.5m range.

That is the reason progress appears to be so slow, as it’s essentially waiting for the right moment to get the player for the money they want to pay for him, but it’s obviously a very risky strategy too.
That's all fair enough, but there is still no excuse if we end the transfer window without at least 1 new centre forward.

Think this has gone on long enough, we have made an offer, his club won't accept it, let's move on Quickly. Bottom line is he has had a couple of decent seasons in French div 2, which is a decent way below Championship standard, wrong side of 30 as well, by the time he beds in and adjusts to living in a foreign country it will be Easter

Agreed.

If we're clutching at straws with this chap, the alternatives down the list must be bleak (if there seriously are any).

I'm genuinely starting to think he's the only striker in world football Spaffman and co have heard of.

“I also watched the three seasons of the documentary ‘Sunderland ‘Til I Die’. - Oh shit...

They’re under no financial pressure to sell anymore, just depends if Caen are happy to piss Mendy off.

Risky because he might start complaining to his team mates.

Seems odd that they'd want to do that, he hasn't done anything wrong.

It's only been 4 weeks tbf.

When I say happy to piss him off, I mean inadvertently.

Player wants to come. We don’t meet their asking price. Caen refuse to budge. Player pissed off.
Yeah but we don't know how negotiations are going, it could be a formality and it's going to go through next week for all we know. We know nothing other than we are interested, the player wants to come and there's been in a delay as Caen have been taken over. Perhaps Caen want to sign a replacement before letting him go, that would surely be the obvious reason.

Bit of a controversial opinion here but... why don't we pay the 2.5 mill they wanted 6 weeks ago and have a striker in the team whose settled in and match fit ready for the new season. Every point and every league game counts.

Haggling over a striker, but nutted stupid money on endless shite the last few windows.

Pay the money and get it done ffs.
Haven't wanted to pay the going rate for two seasons now. Says everything about our club.

So your answer to having wasted money in the past is that we should waste more now?

If that article is to be believed and we want him/think we can get him for 2-2.5m you think we should just pay the 5m they apparently want? For the sake of a few games, the first of which we won anyway?

Just want to be clear about what you’re suggesting because the people saying “just get a striker in” insist they don’t advocate over spending when you push back on it.
