Zak Johnson

At the moment we can't loan him out till we know how fit Alesse is imo. I still think he's better than Hjelde and Anderson, even though the latter has also vastly improved since his loan
I agree with that. I thought he was better at CB than Alese too on Saturday and i dont think i've seen anything from Seelt or Triantis that shows they are any better than him either. He looked good, i like him. I hope he gets a chance here since we are supposedly all about developing young talent.

I'm a little unconvinced with Alese. He offers pace but I don't think he's great in the air for his size.

Hjelde for looked the best of the rest for me. He looks a natural CB.

Alese injury prone too.

I thought that Zak did well against Blackpool.

Looks like his loan deals at Hartlepool & Dundalk have benefited him.

I think some players don't really come of age until they have had loans, and a club often does them a disservice by having them on the cusp but never quite hitting a consistent stride. Look at Patto after his trip to Notts county, but more generally The likes of Kane and Beckham when they were young. People remember Beckham being young when he came into the Man Utd side, but only really matured at Preston if I remember rightly.

Even Amad - his career was going nowhere until he came to us, and save for his injury, I suspect he'd be a man utd regular now.

It would be nice to keep Johnson this summer, because he is clearly one of the most promising youngsters. But we do him and the club a disservice if we don't send him out on loan to somewhere where he could excell. I'd suggest somewhere like Birmingham might be perfect.

A league 1 loan, particularly for any of the teams likely to be challenging at the top would be a real step up for him. Would love to see it happen though and from the various comments on here, many seem to think he’s capable of it.

When I was a kid, England u21 and u18 prospects often didn't make it. It seems much more likely they do these days as the coaching and scouting becomes more joined up. If Zak is in and around that side, he is at the age that a L1 move is the next natural step if he is to progress at the speed they tend to.

He's clearly made some great progress over the last 12-18 months. We now have a responsibility as a club to make sure that progress continues by sending him out on loan again ideally to a competitive league 1 side. If that happens, i'd expect him to come back the following summer ready to challenge for a starting place in our team.

If we keep him here as a squad player, he may never reach the level we'd like him to be at due to lack of regular football.

If we can't find him a league 1 loan, i'd even be tempted to offer him to top end league 2. Game time is crucial for him this season imo

Needs a league one loan to develop further. We should have enough depth in defence to let him go out. But the lad needs to play regular and while he would do a job off the bench, I’d rather he goes out, smashes it and then starts next season pushing for a position in the team.

Not sure how it works with the Irish season running differently
It's a strange one but if I remember rightly with him playing for us and Hartlepool last season, Ireland was the only place he could go to as it was classed as a new season.

I'd reckon hes played for Dundalk and us this season. So can't go out on loan.

I could be wrong though
