This is also a good indication of how difficult it is to get strikers through the door though. Leicester wanting to buy before they let Cannon go, that Leicester signing might not happen until deadline day. If any club is willing to wait that long to get a player in it's us, but its a gamble

I agree. Although think they're supposed to be bringing someone in in the next day or so.

They signed him when in the Championship as a fringe player though, can’t see his wages being that high really. Most clubs in this division should be able to cover them in full like.

Would you pay 4million for a 30 year old untried in English football from the French second tier? I wouldn’t. I suspect this may become a ‘rising to’ to keep face similar to Hjelde but in reality is much less eg we get up to the premier league we at extra.

I would if my recruitment team had identified him as number one target to solve our forward issues from the end of last season. Otherwise, what’s the point of having them?

If it meant we were promoted to the PL with him in the team yes, which is the only way it would ever reach 4 million.

Having them as a target for one fee and another that’s more than double isn’t the same. I reckon we could get less of a gamble and better value elsewhere for that fee and rightly we’ll be exploring that. I wouldn’t imagine he was number one target either, he was just a good value one previously where others became inflated/chose elsewhere.

It’s got nothing to do with me what I think is fair, time is running out so we need to get a deal done. I would say 2 million up front would be more than fair though, then variables which could hit up to 4 is a drop in the ocean if we were to get promoted while he is under contract.

If he wasn’t number one target then I doubt we’d still be here after two months
