After 31 games last season, our performance level was almost exactly the same as it was over 46 games the season before, in terms of league position and points/GF/GA per game despite the loss of Stewart/Simms/Amad. Some are fond of saying that we were in relegation form for the last 30 or so games of last season. We weren't:
Games 1-16 - 6th
Games 17-31 - 9th
Games 32-46 - 23rd

Those last 15 games were impacted by injuries and suspensions, managerial chaos/incompetence, and the loss of momentum caused by "plodding on". All of those are in the past. There is no reason why we can't get back to the previous level if Le Bris is even reasonably competent.

Last 37 games we had 2 more points than Birmingham and the same as Huddersfield. We definitely were in relegation battle form for 30 or so games

Thanks for that, I hadn't even realised I should have been shitting me pants nigh on ten games into the season.

See post #229. With fifteen games to play last season we were in 6th. We had 47 pts from 31 games. If we had maintained that form over the last 15 games we would have finished with 69-70pts, right where we were the season before. And in the 15 games prior to that (basically breaking the season into thirds) we had 21pts (good for 9th in the form table) equating to 1.4ppg or a 64pt season, nowhere near relegation form. FFS we were still top half of the table at the end of March with 7 games to go.

How anyone can claim we were in "relegation form" for 37 games and still be in 6th with 15 games to go is bizarre.

We were second worst team second half of the season

We were actually 19th over the 2nd half of last season. And since when is the second half of the season 30 or 37 games, which is the nonsense that some are putting up? In the first third of the season we were 6th (in 6th overall), in the second third of the season we were 9th (sitting 8th overall at that point), and in the final third we were 23rd (finishing 16th overall with eight teams still worse than us). The difference was that after Game 31 we went on a six-game losing streak and never recovered. Until then, we were in the top eight no matter what numbers people want to invent to "prove" that we were in relegation form for most of the season.

im tired but does this make sense?

I am tired but what makes perfect sense is either for you to take reading lessons or for me to put you on Ignore because the post made perfect sense. You as a person clearly just decide what should make sense and what shouldn’t.

And I know what option is the most sensible.

Goodbye

We’d have lost a game like that last season. Seeing us actually organised off the ball, for the first time in what seems like years.
Interesting point I noticed at the match was after the O9 goal 3-4 players were at the bench and RDB appeared to be giving them in depth instructions. As you say, on Saturday we were organised, this doesn't happen by accident,

Because for the last 37 games of the season we got the exact same amount of points during that time as the 2nd bottom relegated team

That statistic isn’t correct. Huddersfield got 10 points in their first nine games and 35 in the next 37. We got 16 and 40 over the same two sets of games.

By a different argument that is relegation form though. 40/37 is 49.7 over a 46 game season. And Birmingham went down with 50.

Thanks for cluing him in. The problem with the "37 games" argument is that you are spreading the impact of a dramatic collapse in the last third of the season over the games that went before it. For the first 22 of those 37 games, we were 9W, 4D, 9L for 31pts and were 10th in the form table over that span. That's equal to a 65pt season. It was 10 and 11 points better over 22 games than Huddersfield and Birmingham and definitely not anywhere near "relegation form"! The last fifteen games are a different story. The factors that led to that collapse are gone and the way the team performed prior to it suggests that this squad should be able to compete in the top half and not be in a relegation battle all season as many are predicting.
