Boro thread

Of course Leeds are bigger than Sunderland.

To suggest otherwise is stupid. About 5x the catchment area too.
Yeah but Leeds is a city with a population just under a million.
Question for you, have Leeds got 26k on the waiting list for season tickets? Or is my mate talking absolute bollox?

That just isn't true, considering you've got Bradford, Huddersfield and Barnsley pretty much on the door step where the population is all with their respective clubs.

There are loads of Leeds fans in Huddersfield, Bradford and Barnsley. Tonnes in fact.

Yes Leeds have a 26,000 season ticket holder waiting list.

It's still not the catchment area though. There's loads of Sunderland fans in Newcastle areas including me in SE Northumberland.

Boro will never be a big club? Careful, carry on with that kind of talk and you'll touch a nerve.

I'll say this. I've seen my club win a trophy. Sunderland fans who aren't my age won't have seen Sunderland win a trophy.

I'm lucky to have been brought up supporting Boro. Almost feel a bit sorry for Sunderland fans who are my age. Must have been shit having to endure year after year of abject failure. Although saying that, didn't you win the pizza hut trophy? I might need to retract my statement.
Who gives a shit what age you are, plenty of our fans have seen us win a trophy and I'd say far more than your supporters Have whatever age people are and I'm not talking about PHT.
Still thousands of people my age seen us win what was regarded as the biggest cup competition in the world. The trophy you won wasn't even the 2nd in England

Aye tons. There may be Leeds 'fans' around West and South Yorkshire but it's densely populated in terms of football clubs and also has its fair share of Rugby (loads around Leeds, Wakey and Bradford) and Cricket. With the demographics of the Leeds and Bradford area many people who couldn't give a shit about football.

There's a reason why even at their absolute peaks they've barely averaged above 40k and it's not to do with stadium capacity, which may have held them back a couple of times in recent seasons.

Probably just as many fans in South, West and North Yorkshire claim to support Man United, doesn't mean they're matchgoers.

Well I give a shit, because it's quite relevant to the point I was making.

Lots of people may have seen Sunderland win the FA cup, but Sunderland fans my age won't have seen them win a trophy.

I'm not bothered that we're not perceived to be a big club, I got to experience my club winning a trophy.

If you really think that I suggest you listen to one of the greatest-Johan Cruyffs fascinating 1973 Fa cup final analysis on you tube
Little owld Sunderland !( a division lower than a great Leeds side )
As a matter of interest who are your team ?

Agree with this.
It keeps getting mentioned (on here at least) about how 'obsessed' we are with Sunderland, yet they're the ones that keep harping on about it - I'd say the obsession is with them, not us.
It's almost as if they're all trying to prove their 'not caring' to each other.
This 'big club' rubbish is exactly that - rubbish.
You can perceive yourself as 'big' as you want, but surely the only important thing is results on the pitch.
There's been seven seasons since Sunderland finished in a higher league position than Boro , 4 of those seasons in the third tier.

We're nowt special (but we know that), but neither are Sunderland .
It's years since either club has even managed a top half premier league finish.
You have 18000 posts on our message board to be fair mate.
