Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Think you'll find most clubs run at a loss fella, Boro included. What they don't do is moan about it. Gibson could quite easily keep that cash made on transfers in the clubs pocket and say use the sustainability card, but the bloke would rather put money in and have a go.

There's unlikely to be a club in this league who are ran at a profit.

have a go? since their relegation in 2009, they have had one season in the top flight and three seasons in the play offs. bit shit for having a go

Just had a look it was estimated he had bankrolled the club to the tune of 170 million pounds as of 2020. He also converted over 100 million pounds that he loaned to the club in to shares in 2022, which has been reported he would never cash in, but could make the club a more saleable asset if he chose to walk away. We are scraping around in the bargain basement.

Aye, and he's not part of an ownership that has two billionaire brothers and a mega rich Uruguayan yet still manages to make them look like the rank f#cking amateurs they are.

I'm now reading that we can't spend nowt on players cos the stadium is too big and our academy costs money to run.....fuck me! Folk will say anything to get their tongues up our owners hoop!

Our lot haven't the ambition or inclination to push this club into playoff/promotion contenders, bit as long as they come out and say there's a 5 year plan and taht promotion is the target, it'll be good enough for the few still blindfolded by the high performance bullshit.

And yet we didn't see them sink into league one for 4 year.

They've been much better run than us under his stewardship for decades, you womble.

you are having a rant at our current owner compared to gibson. if gibson is so good, how come they have failed to anything of note for 15 years?

Our costs for none playing staff are much higher too because of our relative size and the crowds. We probably lose more than most because of that and the fact match day revenue isn’t the man factor anymore.
Sunderland’s premiere league infrastructure means it will never be long term sustainable in Div 2. That’s why we have to be serious about getting back to the premier league asap. We need two decent strikers and the season starts on Saturday. We can’t afford to write games off. It’s incredibly bad management for us to be in this position given the backing the support is giving to the club.

I don’t see us getting out of this league (in the right direction) under this ownership.

Not only will clubs benefitting from parachute payments regularly finish above us but other clubs who are prepared to invest sensibly will also have the quality of player to do so.

I’m convinced our owners plan for promotion is to spend the bare minimum and hope every other club in the league commit financial suicide and self implode.

It could work by 2038

I’ll be 45 by then I seriously hope kyril does not have that train of thought :)

" We have only failed for 8 years "

You say that like it's something to boast about.....
I was half-joking.

Obviously we’ve sunk much further than most clubs over the last decade but pre-Moyes we were a fixture in the PL for 10 seasons (albeit we were finishing at the bottom end every year). The proper failure started then.

We are still in a much better position than we were when I first started supporting Sunderland in the early-90s. As a kid growing up in Scotland, more people incorrectly thought I was wearing a Southampton shirt than recognised me as a Sunderland fan (in fact one of my mates picked Southampton as his “English team” when we were kids, purely because it pissed me off so much that people would mistake me for one of them). That hasn’t happened for a long time!
