Boro thread

For me, it's a good laugh when we play Boro. Most of my mates are Boro fans, usually go in the pig iron or similar with them beforehand for a drink and usually after as we always get beat there. I don't really like the game itself as I find the constant 'peado' chants horrific and something that needs to stop asap. The demographic of our fans who do Boro away is very different to most away games imo. What I would say though whenever I've been to Boro is it's their fans who are usually intent on causing bother. The walk back to central station last season was just Boro fans attacking the escort over and over again.
In fairness, I'm not sure how many arrrets there were last time we played, but the only bit of bother I saw was when two Sunderland fans attempted to break through the police escort and attack Boro fans.

They were arrested and it was quite amusing to be fair, especially when a Boro fan shouted "You could have at least waited until after the game you absolute melts".

I don't condone violence but I'm sure you can accept that Sunderland fans antagonise Boro fans. It will naturally rub people up the wrong way when your fans are constantly singing paedo songs, and it was the worst it's been in a long time when we played last season.

You say "in fairness" and then give a totally unfair one sided opinion of things, so no, that's not in fairness, that's you giving a Boro perspective on things

So you think we are obsessed with Boro
Yet threads are started by a Boro fan telling us how tremendous you are “ going to be “
The usual Boro supporters then come along and tell us how “big “they are with “20000 season tickets” sold as an example
Serious question do we go on like that on your fans forums ?-( I presume you go on your own forums so can tell us )!starting threads and attempting to laud it
seems very attention seeking
No, I said (possibly not clearly) that a lot of your fans seem obsessed with proving you 'dont care', and the obsession seems to be in thinking we're obsessed.

I don't know anyone who goes on about how 'big' we are or any bragging about what season tickets we sell - they would have to be pretty dumb for that, especially on a Sunderland board.

The only one I can think of that comes on here 'lauding it' just seems a bit of a wind up merchant really, and he/she quite often gets a fair few bites too.

The forums - maybe others can answer better , I don't go on one Boro and only post on fmttm now n again.
There used to be a regular Sunderland fan on fly me and there's a Hull fan goes in regularly too, but as for 'lauding it' i dunno - i dont think there's much 'lauding it' by Boro fans on here.

Agree with this.
It keeps getting mentioned (on here at least) about how 'obsessed' we are with Sunderland, yet they're the ones that keep harping on about it - I'd say the obsession is with them, not us.
It's almost as if they're all trying to prove their 'not caring' to each other.
This 'big club' rubbish is exactly that - rubbish.
You can perceive yourself as 'big' as you want, but surely the only important thing is results on the pitch.
There's been seven seasons since Sunderland finished in a higher league position than Boro , 4 of those seasons in the third tier.

We're nowt special (but we know that), but neither are Sunderland .
It's years since either club has even managed a top half premier league finish.

And your ownership has been steady since the early 90s

I wouldn't exactly be bragging about that at a time when we had a few cockney car salesmen owning us.

If Boro had even half the bad ownership safc has had youd be in league 2

Something that i've never taken part in when I've been to Boro away. Just never understood it. There's an element of our fans who turn up for Boro to chant that stuff for 90 mins and even last season there was young kids getting involved as their parents egged them on. Crazy.
It's horrible and to me creates an awful, hostile atmosphere.
Admittedly, our lot aren't all angels though.

Obviously, decent ownership means a lot.
Wouldn't even try to dispute that

Yes I've lived down here 20 plus years and drink in the classy establishments such as the Piss Iron and to be fair most are canny however your always going to get the odd gob shite goes with the territory.

There's definitely a bit from both sides 100%. The walk back to central station was an eye opener. Dads and lads throwing vapes / coins into the Sunderland fans, actively looking for bother. For every 'peado' chant from our fans there's an Adam Johnson or similar chant from the Boro south stand. Just continues on and tit for tat. I'd like to see both clubs get together to discourage it on both ends.

Aye it's pathetic and obscene (the chanting), from both sides.
And what sort of moron encourages their own children to try to incite violence?

Agree about the clubs should be getting together on the vile chanting too - been saying this for years.

Chances of us having an easily-offended Aussie ref two years in a row is slim.

You do remember that's the only reason you beat us, aye?
They do seem to forget it was quite even until that, us probably starting to edge it. They go on like they dominated the entire match. Just poor tactics when we went down to ten gifted them the scoreline

To move away from the honking banter from a whopper on another teams message board and get back to the original point, I'd take both them signings for us mind.

Conway (who is rumoured to be going to Hull or Burnley too) would instantly improve us up top and has scored goals in this division, and young enough to fit "the model" plus pretty sure that Hamilton played in a dead rubber for city in champs league and looked quality

I don't think anyone has been arguing about who the bigger club is, unless I've missed something.

The vast majority of Boro fans couldn't give a toss about Sunderland being a bigger club than Boro, many Boro fans have seen Boro win a trophy, and to us that will always trump this idea of being perceived as being a big club.
many sunderland fans have seen us win two

That's because you'll never be a big club and may I remind you more Sunderland fans have seen us win a trophy even if it was in 73 but still a bigger trophy than you could hope to win so don't come on here looking all high and mighty because you were lucky to win one final. Come back when you have a history

The difference is I like to see Boro do well (but not at our expense of course) whereas I don't want our true rivals to ever win anything.

We also won the Anglo Scottish cup in 1975.
