Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Trying to but the club is so mismanaged.

18 months without a competent CF or DCM. Being blown out the water by other championship clubs for players and utterly disgraceful treatment of supporters who want to put significant monies into the club.

If the owners had serious intent sacking Speakman and this Holmes character would send a message. It’s amateur hour at best.

👋👋👋
We don’t and won’t play with a DCM. I’m not sure why the club is getting bashed over this and labelled as mismanaged.

This is very true.
Quinn was seen as an average signing by many supporters when Reidy brought him in, there was zero excitement or expectation. His first season was awful but it's amazing how injuries can affect players because when he became fully fit he was a different player - and of course when Reidy paired him with SKP and played to his strengths.
His first game I saw , he looked like the tin man . Zero flexibility .

Do you not reckon part and parcel of this is demographic? Most fans that I know that are slightly older expect us to be a premier league side as a bare minimum. People younger than that have seen us not in the PL for longer than they've seen us in it. I'll say we (as i'm in that bracket) have also never seen us win a trophy. So when you put that together the ambition may not be quite as high. For me, we are a PL club in terms of size but I don't expect us to be there. The modern game and it's financial dependencies aren't understood by most either and I think that's obvious. Put that all together with the 'model' in which we operate now I think the way the club is being ran is completely un-aligned with how the majority want the club to be ran but there is no easy solution to that.
I don’t expect us to be anywhere without merit mate but, I expect us to be given the tools to have a go. We weren’t the second half of the play off season and not at all last. Here we are starting the season likely with Mayenda up front and Rusyn to come off the bench - it wouldn’t be good enough if we were still League One as you have to score goals to get points and we simply don’t have anywhere near enough of them in that squad.

I fully agree the striker situation is unforgiveable given how close we are to the start of the season.

Unfortunately Man City, Chelsea and other clubs have fucked the transfer system value for everyone; including all the teams further down the pyramid in England and across Europe. So fees are silly, for what these players are. So unfortunately it’s the ‘going rate’ for a lot of these players. Which is why there are so many loans and free transfers done.

Certain positions you just have to pay the money. The plus points on Mendy are his goal-scoring record is consistent over the last three seasons, at Ligue 2 level, and his injury record is good.

Overall, the aim for us as a club is to get out of this league. £3m is a drop in the ocean, if it gets you £120+ for a single season in the Premier League.
Not saying we shouldn’t pay that money for a striker, just not a 30 year old one

A lot of people are saying relax until the end of the window but it’s not like this situation has presented itself this summer and we are playing for points in 4 days.
I feel sorry for Le Bris but he surely knew what he was coming into?
His answer is it’s my job to work with the players here.

If we lose by 1 goal or drawer it’ll probably be due to no striker. That puts us on the back foot straight away.

Thing is, if Mendy’s statement is to be believed, he said he “knew in June” that he was coming here, Le Bris was appointed back end of June, so we don’t know if he was told that Mendy was incoming, or if he was even the person who pushed for Mendy in the first place as part of getting the job.
