Sunderland music thread

Might be a daft idea, but how do we get in the ears of the decision makers of who puts bands on in Sunderland. Make sure Pop Recs, the Fire Station, Independent & Peacock are aware of what we want as gig goers? I know we’ve already got @dodgem on here from the Peacock. Would be mint if we as a selection of people who go to the gigs could potentially have an influence.

The naive bit about this post is I don’t know how it all works. Does someone want to tour then approach venues, do the venues approach management & say hoy us on the list for the next one, or a bit of both.

As an example, Frank Turner at the Fire Station that I mentioned to @GTG. Brògreal are playing the Cluny in September, Pop Recs would have been class.

The Peacock have posted on Facebook that all music is cancelled tonight.

I can confirm the ship Isis gig with 3 local artists is going ahead.

I'm no expert but the go-between is normally the promoter who puts the bands on and books the venue ( and takes the financial risk). Obviously venues can also act as promoters. I guess promoters have to do the work to find suitable bands. I also would add that it would be good to get some input/feedback into the Music City bid. I get the feeling that its a little bit, erm... safe.

I go to the Great Escape festival in Brighton every year. I've been to South Korean, German, and French showcases where 4 or 5 bands from that country play and sometimes there is food (even free drinks at the German show). I would love there to be a 'This is Sunlun' showcase. I can imagine giving the leaflets out to people introducing the bands and the wonders of our city to the punters. We have enough of the new/up and coming bands that suit the festival. No idea how much such a thing costs to put on but maybe Music City could get the funding.

Not seen word about this, did it get postponed due to the rioting?

Sure somebody posted about it in another thread. Saying it was good.
Found it on “Firestarters” thread, thanks 👍🏼
Just one post tho, can’t have been well attended etc, given that the riots etc wouldn’t have helped. Shame.

It's class that some posters compile what's on in Sunderland on a daily basis like, but where do yous get all this info to compile it?

I’ve stood in once or twice for Kingdom Boy & just searched the FB pages for places that there’s been gigs the previous weeks. It’s not a small job like.

Lass in work if I knew if there were any bands on a few weeks ago. Gave her 4 choices in the town centre within seconds.
