And SMELLDear dear me… I live south of Yarm… know quite a few Boro fans. They share two traits.
1. They don’t attend matches
2. They are obsessed with Sunderland

Met a few of my girlfriend’s mates and they were utter arseholes about it. She introduced me to one lass and she just went “I f***ing hate mackem kernts” and walked offShe was pretty shocked by how they went on.
They all go on about how Sunderland is a shithole and I look around their town centre wondering if they’ve ever been anywhere near it. The place is like a set from the walking dead. Sunderland centre isn’t great but it’s like Florence compared to that wasteland.
That said, I will say some of the outer lying areas around Middlesbrough are fantastic. There are a few villages nearby that, in my opinion, are nicer than what we have around Sunderland.
Worse than the mags in my experience.
Agree with this.I don't think anyone has been arguing about who the bigger club is, unless I've missed something.
The vast majority of Boro fans couldn't give a toss about Sunderland being a bigger club than Boro, many Boro fans have seen Boro win a trophy, and to us that will always trump this idea of being perceived as being a big club.
I never gave you a seconds thought til I moved here. Notice that a lot of the posters on this thread live in the area.Agree with this.
It keeps getting mentioned (on here at least) about how 'obsessed' we are with Sunderland, yet they're the ones that keep harping on about it - I'd say the obsession is with them, not us.
It's almost as if they're all trying to prove their 'not caring' to each other.
This 'big club' rubbish is exactly that - rubbish.
You can perceive yourself as 'big' as you want, but surely the only important thing is results on the pitch.
There's been seven seasons since Sunderland finished in a higher league position than Boro , 4 of those seasons in the third tier.
We're nowt special (but we know that), but neither are Sunderland .
It's years since either club has even managed a top half premier league finish.
For me, it's a good laugh when we play Boro. Most of my mates are Boro fans, usually go in the pig iron or similar with them beforehand for a drink and usually after as we always get beat there. I don't really like the game itself as I find the constant 'peado' chants horrific and something that needs to stop asap. The demographic of our fans who do Boro away is very different to most away games imo. What I would say though whenever I've been to Boro is it's their fans who are usually intent on causing bother. The walk back to central station last season was just Boro fans attacking the escort over and over again.I never gave you a seconds thought til I moved here. I have to agree with @shakermaker above, the only time I ever think about Boro is when we play you. I used to share an office with a Sunderland supporting fella who'd lived in Sedgefield and he was obsessed with slagging the Boro, and I've met some fans of both clubs who were twats it's fair to say. Would I sign up to a Boro board in ANY circumstances?Agree with this.

I'm sorry but did I say Boro fans weren't obsessed with Sunderland?Dear dear me… I live south of Yarm… know quite a few Boro fans. They share two traits.

They are idiots likeI moved down here (Marton) last year and couldn’t believe the obsession, bordering on hatred they have for Sunderland like.

You care enough to come on here and spout dribble constantly.I'm sorry but did I say Boro fans weren't obsessed with Sunderland?
Some Boro fans are obsessed with Sunderland. Many Boro fans dislike Sunderland.
I was making the point that most Boro fans don't care about Sunderland being perceived as being a bigger club.
I am stumpedCould be a cricket score against you boys this year, it nearly was last year in fairness.
Micah Hamilton and Conway inboundgonna be expensive mind
And yet only last week there was a big thread on here entitled "mutants season ticket prices".They are idiots like
I used to live in marske with the ex and they hated me
Never met a bunch like them.
Boro it’s self is horrible has some awful places worse than Sunderland.
The surrounding areas as you say are amazing.
You care enough to come on here and spout dribble constantly.
Fact is a lot of us don’t care about you it’s just another game.
I was brought up in Washington and I hate the mags and the mags only I don’t hate you at all. I would say recently we have had more issues with Coventry and Portsmouth and I put you on the same level as them.
You are local and that’s about it for me.
Won't disagree with any of that. You do realise this thread was started by a Boro fan trying to Lord it over Sunderland right?
I like Boro for the record, proper club...just some of the fans are tits, same as every club
Plenty of Sunderland fans I know round here see Boro as the big one for them, because of where they're based. It's Newcastle for me despite being born in Teesside. I find the Boro game a good excuse to catch up with mates, have a laugh etc. The result doesn't bother me as much as it does a fair few I know. I reckon it means more to them than the Newcastle game. And yet only last week there was a big thread on here entitled "mutants season ticket prices".
I can guarantee you wouldn't find the same thread on any other football message board.
I get that plenty of Sunderland fans aren't bothered about Boro. I actually don't mind admitting that the "rivalry" probably does mean that little bit more to Boro, as you're the closest thing we have to a derby. Newcastle will always be your big derby, and to some Sunderland fans, the only derby.
You know fine well though that there are Sunderland fans who do dislike Boro and do class it as a rivalry.. Maybe it's the Sunderland fans who are located closer to Teesside who see it this way.
But (to me) it's nowt to do with 'being on this board'.Yet here you are on our messageboard, with your fellow smogs, boreside Steve and the other clampit who created this thread

Something that i've never taken part in when I've been to Boro away. Just never understood it. There's an element of our fans who turn up for Boro to chant that stuff for 90 mins and even last season there was young kids getting involved as their parents egged them on. Crazy. But (to me) it's nowt to do with 'being on this board'.
I live in County Durham and I find this board to be very informative about local 'goings on'.
Yes, I comment on threads about Boro (I'm bound to, surely?).
All I'm saying that IN MY OPINION (and I do know a lot of Boro fans), there isn't as much 'sunderland hating' as is made out.
Yes, a fair few do see you as local rivals , probably because you are the nearest club to us on a similar level (cue the abuse), and obviously that's not gonna be mutual to Sunderland fans that live further north than say Billingham as you're nearest club is your dear old black n white cousins.
Have to say though, the 'rivalry' was a hell of a lot more intense and downright nasty between Boro and Sunderland fans in my younger days.
Won't argue about you very last point.
Some decent points there.
Absolutely no need for the violence or the disgusting chants either.
