Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

My point is, as I'm sure you must have grasped, quinn was a quality player with vast experience at a high level of English football. Mendy is a very different kettle of fish, his experience is a very different kind. Now he may turn out to be a very good signing but his record isn't comparable.
I don't think Quinn signed with a great reputation, many thought he was a donkey, more so after his first game, but he proved everyone wrong.

My point was 30 doesn't mean he's nearly finished, he could have another 4 or 5 years in him easy if he keeps himself fit. Players aren't retiring as young as they once did. We're signing a player at their peak, off the back of a 20 goal plus season.

This is very true.
Quinn was seen as an average signing by many supporters when Reidy brought him in, there was zero excitement or expectation. His first season was awful but it's amazing how injuries can affect players because when he became fully fit he was a different player - and of course when Reidy paired him with SKP and played to his strengths.

What we expected, to what we got were two different things. KP helped greatly in his movement which allowed him to position his big lighthouse frame to pivot into KP's path.
The move highlighted what a better footballer and man Quinn was.

People assumed we'd sign more expensive players if we brought money in. The ownerships aim to keep the wagebill down and the evidence of signings since would indicate that's not the case. I've been saying for some time that the model isnt what people think it is. Its a player farm model which is designed to make money in the long run and not to achieve sporting success.
Agree and sadly the owners don’t understand that a successful team will add value to all the players and the club and they can sell.

We are like a sad football experiment.

We are the biggest club outside the premier league. Do we expect to be promoted? No but do we expect to at least have a go? it has to be yes.

Given the humiliation of last season the owners had opportunity to put things right. It’s all words, learning lessons and the like when it was actions needed.

Here we are 4 days before the start of the season without a penny spent in fees and we are no nearer to addressing the massive deficiencies in the team that have been there 18 months. The new HC is in a hiding to nothing.

Reading the thread regarding the pathetic ticket arrangements and treatment of supporters. We are run by rank amate it’s and non league clubs give their support better service and respect.

The owners should be looking to sell.

Tied down a couple of key players to longer conrracts

New head coach who has us playing high press and with intensity

New centre mid who has already given the team a lift.

New winger who will challenge clarke / roberts with his quality once fully fit

Other than not bringing a forward in yet we have done all the necessary things for this team to move forward. Directors have clearly changed tact to try and succeed.

Have a bit faith

Anything other than promotion this season is a failure, same as last 2 seasons.
As you say 'biggest club' outside of the premier, it's f...g disgrace man.
Last years squad failed miserably and we haven't improved it,never mind singe a striker.

Trying to but the club is so mismanaged.

18 months without a competent CF or DCM. Being blown out the water by other championship clubs for players and utterly disgraceful treatment of supporters who want to put significant monies into the club.

If the owners had serious intent sacking Speakman and this Holmes character would send a message. It’s amateur hour at best.

Our squad is full of quality but was inbalanced. Browne in centre mid and poveda are 2 excellent additions that clearly show intent to improve from last season. 2 or 3 more like that in key areas and we'll challenge.

Browne is a good signing but we need a DCM snd a CF and hsve for 18 months.

Without these players the team is massively short whatever the quality of the rest of the squad.

18 months - it’s gross mismanagement

Was this his first game where he came on as a substitute late on and scored a disallowed goal or his first game he started where we beat forest 4.1

The club clearly think they can't improve on Dan Neil as the dcm.

Why do people keep saying this? We signed 4 strikers last year.

They havent turned out how we thought, It is not ‘gross mismanagement’

We also play with two central midfielders in a 4231, We had Evans who unfortunatley had a season ending injury.

Serious question, If we play 4231, Who gets dropped from Neil or Browne? Both those and a CDM cant play in a 4231 formation.

Think that’s right. Got injured maybe the next home game vs Coventry & was out until the last few games of the season when he was pretty ineffective. He started the next season, cos he scored against Man City in the first home match, but think he might have got injured again? I remember him coming on as sub, I want to say Forest at home about November & let’s just say he wasn’t exactly welcomed like the hero we see today onto the pitch. He pretty much was excellent from then on.

I agree he could have years in him, but he's more compatible with laslands than quinn. As I stated he had a vast amount of top flight experience, whether you rated him at the time is immaterial. He was a transfer record at the time. Something we'll never see broken under this lot.
