Hope you are right because the new HC is going to get little support off Dodds or Proctor. People keep saying they were good at what they were doing, well they need to get back there because they were utter failures at managing the first team last season and every time they have stepped in apart from a couple of results.

Thrown to the wolves in interviews? He's the head coach. It's his job to front up to interviews.

He hasn't been forced to have anything. He wasn't forced to come here. He's taken the job with eyes wide open. I think you're being very dramatic.

Those "two serial fuck ups" have been involved in a promotion.

Given how poorly the two of them performed last season I’m not sure how their input will help unless the new HC does the opposite of what they tell him.

I think the coaching set up needed a refresh. A few on here say Dodds and Proctor were good in their previous roles before they were promoted to first team duties. Send them back and get a quality assistant HC.

I'd happily see it refreshed. I think there's good argument for it. But at the same time I'm not convinced it's completely broken, and I don't think there's any reason to suggest they'll be unsupportive to the head coach. Their job is to support him. That's what they're there for.

If they are found to be undermining him, then by all means root them out, but at present we have absolutely no evidence to suggest that they are.

Totally agree, its funny as I've seen a few posters on here arguing that Dodds & Proctor did well under Mowbray etc, However they forgot to mention that it was Mark Venus and Tony Mowbray who would take on the main coaching duties, not Dodds & Proctor...

Fair enough. have never said they may undermine him just I think if we are struggling in a game and he turns around and looks at his assistants I don’t think Dodds snd Proctor will help much given how we saw they did last season.

Given that we haven’t fundamentally addressed the weaknesses in the team ie strikers and DCM all I can see at the moment is another season of struggle.i just think we deserve better.

To be absolutely fair to Dodds, he wasn't to bad at making the right call mid-game for a substitution. His downfall was getting it wrong from the off week after week. We'd often finish games better than we started, but the problem was the damage had already been done.


I assumed Alan Browne was brought in to be the experienced head in midfield. Dinnar an awful lot about him to be honest like - reports suggested he was more advanced at the weekend.

Absolutely. Having Amad first season was probably a bad thing in terms of what those at the club believed we needed or could be achieved with 'footballers' rather than 'strikers'. It was obvious first half of that season with Stewart and Simms injuries, but when Amad got into form we kinda got away with it quite often.

The problem is he was a once in ten years loan and we're not spending €38m on young talent, we're picking up kids available from or who have been at big clubs and trying to compete with Championship clubs across many divisions around Europe without having any kind of financial clout available.

whilst we do that and wait for one striker to come good, we really need to understand we may need to pay more here or there to get adequate striker(s) in as if we don't others will and we will get further behind.

You do realise much of the one touch and quick passing and impetus on quick countering whilst will become more natural the more it's played, will also lead to us giving opportunities to the opposition when pressed or when we lose the ball?

It will also lead to many sides sitting back, again and us having to work out how to get through.

Essentially without serious additions it will lead to us getting further up the pitch and then playing it slowly back to Roberts and Clarke, as we've done for so long, because they will show for and are comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Dress it up however you like but without additions it's unlikely to be much different.

Probably difficult to specifically recruit an assistant manager who you don't know, they can't just be great coaches, they are going to have to need a great rapport with the manager. So I guess they will need to work with him a bit before any decision is made.

I think we got very lucky with Amad, not convinced any the top brass are insightful enough to conclude because of him we could abandon the necessity for a striker but you could be right.

I think it points more towards an approach of accumulating "promising talent" with an eye to future profit, not to future success.

If this was laid out bare to supporters a lot would not be happy, but we would at least understand. Speakman IS on record as saying we were hoping to go one better last season, he failed miserably, the holes in our team were as clear as day, no excuses at all.

We need to sell big this summer if that was always the plan, and if it is reinvest heavily, we need a really competent person to bring in genuine talent in areas of need to push us on to success.

If there is no real plan we are just going through the motions and bullshitting, it might be financially prudent, but it is not viable long term from a sporting perspective.

I think our inexperienced owner is being sold a pup by his management team. We will see, if I am wrong happy days.
