You might be right. If we can keep some key players fit, which we couldn't last season with the left backs, then simply improving style and finishing higher up may look like progress.
I do think we'll have difficultly scoring regularly or with penetrative forward play though if we don't sign a striker and if we have the likes of Jobe playing in advanced midfield roles.
I still think Clarke will go and that's going to send us backwards in terms of losing his goals/assists as we needed someone to add to that, not just replace it.
We've also had this idea of possession based football being used as our styel of play, but it doesn't fit with the players we have. As our first season in the Championship shown, we were built for the quick counter attack and playing on the front foot. That has now given away to playing in our own half with slow build up and very little in the way of foward movement.
Don't get me wrong, a well rounded target man would help us out massively in getting further up the pitch, and it looks like RGB wants to play that way, with quicker movements and passing, but how does that come across in training when the coaches that have been here before RLB believe in a different approach?
I expect Regis to be a much better head coach than Beale, but when you come into a working environment on your own, it can sometimes be difficult to get your ideas across. They can often be met with "That's not how we do things here". Hopefully, that's not the case, but we're expecting a lot for just this fella to turn things around with the same coaching staff as before.
