Of course I'm critical of the deficiencies you outline.You need a fairer balance between bat and ball to make a game interesting. The point I was making is if you had world class batsmen,as claimed,teams wouldn't be skittled in a set up which is contrived to favour the batsmen.
I've just watched a really close game of a high standard watched by a capacity crowd at Sedbergh where none of the participants would be paid obscene salaries. As you're well aware,mate,I just don't understand how any cricket lover can defend a competition which is going to bankrupt the game in this country or are gullible enough to swallow the propaganda that franchise is the panacea. England isn't India cricketwise.

Yeah of course I get your point, the point I was making is that whatever the score low, middle or high, an angle would be found to criticize.

So that fact it was low tonight is irrelevant, as if it wasn’t an angle would still have been found to have a go.



As for your other point so many mistakes have happened with this competition, firstly changing a clearly popular format T20, was the biggest, secondly promising world class talent that clearly hasn’t happened. There are others.

Too many changes to a winning formula.

There should be a T20 competition in this country in a designated window preferably school holidays where all the focus is on it as much quality players as possible in it, just like in India, just like in Australia and just like in South Africa.

Whether that can be done with franchises or 18 counties is the wider debate, but we should have a flagship competition and no reason that can’t be second biggest in the world

The fact we have two competitions is frankly ridiculous.
You know as a cricket fan it’s not as simple as saying because you have world class players you not going to get out for low scores.

Happens in world class IPL, world class internationals where at times top class teams get lows scores.

Thats just cricket

No. Taking first team cricket away from half the country was the biggest mistake. Using the game's own cash reserves to try and destroy the county game was the biggest mistake. Putting the sport near bankruptcy while trying to destroy the county game was the biggest mistake.

Anyway, another low quality game of sub T20 hit and giggle tonight. Or, to put it another way, a superb display of hitting! Woop!

Each big cricketing country has embraced short format cricket and accepted it poplar with fans, and put aside a designated window for their flagship competition.

This country should do the same, happy if the authorities find a way to do that with counties rather than franchise, but either way it should happen in the summer in peak time
 
The broadcasters have made such a fuss about The Hundred being a different format altogether, then proceed to give player stats based upon their T20 careers.

They really need to decide is it different or not 🙄

As much as I can take you point in first paragraph, especially the unfair geographical spilt of the competition

The second paragraph is simply not accepting that world cricket both wants and needs short format cricket.

It’s about getting the balance right and accepting that.

Childish, snobbery jibes towards it just totally counter productive

It is "hit and giggle". Reduced boundaries so that mishits become big hits to entertain the youngsters I e. make them giggle. Many,like myself, hold contempt for a unnecessary format which is draining cricket of its finances. Nothing childish or snobbish in that attitude. Care to attempt to justify your comment.
 
I'll give it another two years and it'll be scrapped, with the ECB announcing a merger of the Blast and The Hundred called The Big 120....telling everyone they are taking the best bits of both competitions to excite fans old and new.

Teams will be based on franchises awarded to 18 distinct areas around the country all of whom have a rich cricketing heritage (apart from Glamorgan who will be known as The Daffidildos)

It wasn’t The Hundred I was referring too it was short format cricket in general

It was this constant put down of short format cricket, that has been going on well before The Hundred was even thought off.

Rather than accepting the popularity and entertainment of it and the fact longer format is better and more entertaining than it ever has been because of the influence of short format cricket.

My point along has been to embrace both Red ball cricket and white ball cricket for the good and longevity of cricket as a whole.

However in my humble opinion there is too much snobbery towards white ball cricket as a whole especially T20

But I genuinely remember nothing from the game yesterday; the scores, players, highlights - literally anything.

It's just not memorable for me. 4 years in and I'd struggle to name the teams, let alone the captains, any movement of players, past winners etc.

I know the league isn't aimed at me (a test fan), but white ball cricket surely needs something more tangible then we're getting at the moment (I include the IPL in that). The franchise model with it's full league drafts just doesn't work as a format for me

I feel the same (as a test/one day fan). In a way it's like when I watch local non-league football. It's fun, it's a look out and it's really enjoyable. I just don't get into it.

I think a big factor is the clubs identities. The lack of a team based in the Northeast takes a lot of interest away from it for me. I just can't imagine myself being a Northern Superchargers supporter when they're based in Yorkshire.

If I had a team I genuinely wanted to win/do well I might pay a bit more attention. But till then it's just a distraction to pass the time if there's nothing else on

The short form isn't embraced by many who enjoy red ball cricket and they're fully entitled to that outlook-I've explained why the term "hit and giggle" is used. I, personally, don't think white ball cricket is a particularly skilful game relying more on brute strength rather than finesse.Again though, why is it snobbery not to embrace white ball cricket and what exactly is offensive in using the term " hit and giggle? ".Is it not you who is being snobbish and childish by not accepting those who don't embrace the short form?

That’s fair enough, we fundamentally have a different view, which is fine, my view is I think white ball short format is extremely skillful, batsman can now hit 360 degrees around the wicket have developed more shots than ever before, bowlers have more variation in the balls they bowl than ever before, and T20 short format cricket has taken fielding to a whole new level.

I also think have watched cricket as you have for countless years the influence of white ball cricket has made test cricket a better watch than ever.

Personally I like all formats of the game and in cricket there is good and bat games in all of them, I don’t see the need to have a go at red ball cricket because I prefer white ball, however there is plenty the other way round imo.

The county championship for example has seen one end to the other end of the spectrum, the last round seen some brilliant games and one of the best ever which is great, however some of the earlier ones when using kookaburra ball was so in favour of the batsman it was a very bad watch.

The issue I have is when they is poor red ball games, you don’t see any snobbery or derogatory comments towards it’s just accepted there will be good and bad games.

Where in T20, IPL and hundred games there is this imo underlying snobbery looking down at them formats and believe ‘ hit and giggle’ is used as a ‘ derogatory’ term towards it and does not do justice to the skills developed in that game that I alluded to above

Whether traditional cricket supporters like it or not short format cricket in the last 15 years has took off and the public worldwide enjoy it, hence the reason for a lot of it.

Best way forward imo is to embrace both formats and accept both have a place in the game not constantly look down at one which imo happens.

That's fair, but Northern Super Chargers are from where I'm from basically, and Oval Invincibles where I live (basically). But I feel no attachment to either
