Iancarlo Poveda (now signed)

Hmmmm….there seems to be a bit of an undercurrent of negativity showing on here.
It already seems that Poveda is on a hiding to nothing because he appears to be a replacement for Clarke (or Roberts).
We need to back him.
It's really not. It's simply pointing out that his recent career is sketchy to say the least, and somehow he's managed to score a 4 year contract on the back of it.

i think this is a good signing. I watched him play for Blackpool against us and he was a constant thorn in our side. He seems to have a good pedigree from a number of top tier academies. Hopefully he’s past the injury that seems to have derailed him - but we seem to get lucky with injuries so what could go wrong. 😜
"Good pedigree." Hopefully he can help us win a lot despite being dogged with injuries.

Look mate. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. I see the potential in the signing but you clearly have a pessimistic view on it. That's fine. I wouldn't say I'm a happy clapper by any means but I think/hope this signing could be a good one.
I hope he comes good obviously, but when you have a recent track record like his, I think it's fair to question his ability to come in and play consistently. And to stay injury free.

Glass half full I know but we're not a million miles away.

First season up we had 17 goals from Stewart and Simms and another 13 and magic from Amad and we scraped into the play offs.

Where's the progress been that suggests we can get anywhere near that?

Clarke, Neil - yes. Balllard (when fit, maybe).

Lots and lots of question marks over many of the squad in the midfield and attacking third even if there is some talent there.

People are getting carried away because of the new head coach and positive approach, but we're so far away in a few areas for it to make a significant difference, without one or two really capable additions.

this guy plays on the opposite side to clarke...
..Poveda has played exactly the same number of championship games as Twine but is younger....

But unlike Twine hasn't impressed. Still got; Ba, Roberts and Mundle for the right so who's going out of them? Don't need 4 RW players and if we play him in CAM who is going to drop out from: Rigg, Aouchiche or Bellingham?

Could be a decent signing but defs not a priority position. Desperate for at least two strikers and a specialist CDM.

bellingham gets a few goals and should get more next season if played in the more advanced role..

has twive impressed? been sent out on loan consistently around the championship by burnley..
Poveda was impresisve for sheffield wednesday last season...

It certainly contributed to an extent, but it wasn't the be all and end all of our problems. We coped very well the season prior.

We had players either able to do that, or to run in behind or the kind of quality rarely seen at this level though.

Looks more likely to line up as one of two number eights, albeit with attacking licence.

Don't think he's suited at all to the attacking midfield role, though he does have good movement in and around the box.

The same people who claim the owner is refusing to invest are now upset we are handing out a long contract and and paying too much?

How do they keep all of the contradictions squared in their heads?

I know nothing about him but reading the comments is he an injury prone none scoring attacking player who is out on loan lots? 4 years. Perfect!

Joking aside. Hopefully he comes good. 🤞

There's loads on today thinking this kid is the answer to potentially Clarke leaving. Again nothing about him in his recent career is worth getting the excited about.

It's his lack of games over a sustained period that needs to be questioned for a 24 year old.
I don’t think we can get a Clarke replacement. Vast majority don’t either. Again I don’t see anyone going OTT

I don't see investing a 4 year contract on someone with his recent record as being an exciting move.
