Eddie Howe

Isn't specifying 'English managers' the problem? That's what the selection committee did with Southgate. It's clear winning the World Cup or any other major trophy is not the first priority. Rather it's about getting a boring, safe, uninspiring manager much like the like us in the committee to continue keeping us in the mix without rocking the boat.

Not for me. You either want to win or you don't want to win and you do what it takes. That's all that people remember. And that's what we need a manager to do.
Southgate has been the best appointment by the selection committee since they chose Alf Ramsey surely? Not sure who else comes close, maybe El Tel? It was a real shame he didn't continue after Euro 96, it would have been interesting to see what he could have done if he had stayed on.

Foreign managers haven't worked so far, Sven had a better team than Southgate and couldn't get past the QFs, Capello didn't go well. Could potentially work of course, just think the signs from here (and the experiences of other European countries) point to a lack of success in terms of winning trophies.

He should be but there’s absolutely no chance he’ll leave the mags. If the riches can keep flowing, he’ll eventually win something with them.

Do you really think managing Newcastle is bigger than managing your national team?

There’s not a single English manager who would turn down managing England no matter who they’re currently managing. Surely it’s the peak of football?

I don't think that at all. He'll be on a fortune, has a few good players at his disposal and seems to get away with having to face any questions or criticisms about being employed by the Saudi regime. He has a cushty number and he knows it. Southgate has received more flak in this one Euro's than Howe has his entire mag tenure. He's onto a good thing with them lot and I can't see him leaving that.

The dogshit defensive "fall down and break up play" stuff hes got them lot playing?

He's a cheap fat headed budget Southgate.
I'd rather he stayed up there and continues to do his thing. The Mags might get a decent manager if he left.

For the first time ever the job is actually an attractive proposition. I think one or two people of a higher calibre might actually fancy it this time. Howe would be no big loss to the mags

We've had stronger overall teams than this one before.

Not sure they bottled the cup final mind , Man United finished 3rd that season and had a far more expensive squad than Newcastle did , it was David v Goliath really .

Howe has beaten Man City , Arsenal , Man United , Chelsea , Spurs , Villa and PSG whilst in charge of the mags so to say he would come up short against the top sides is a bit silly .

Why does it say “lost magpie” by your username?

Pressures right on him this season mind. No Europe distraction means he has to go deep in at least one cup comp and challenge top 4.
