Car Crash 16.4…

Oh dear, how sad, we f*cking you so.
I mean I don't really want to celebrate English cricket self destructing.

But the whole thing has been about the fact they failed to trademark T20 and so wanted a new money making scheme.

Shame those responsible face no real punishment. The prick responsible Harrison walked into CEO of the Six Nations so he's probably paid more money.

Also for those that want to get past paywall

Did they (the ECB) really think cricket was going to generate millions of pounds?

Why don't they just give Allen Stanford a call?

yeah the whole 49% share wasnt going to work was it, why would the likes of surrey who are quids in sell their share, and if you wanted the London spirit that comes with problems of playing at lords,

were the Indians and Saudis going to give away millions with just a name to show for it, they'd want to own the counties and the grounds

"Total debt in the county game estimated to be nearly £200 million". How has that been allowed to happen? Cynics might suggest the FTECB have let this slide to make counties desperate for cash and open to any scheme to alleviate it.
Otherwise, where are the punishments?

From £73 million surplus only a few years ago too.

This white elephant of a competition is going to bankrupt our game putting everything into it without any thought as to what might happen.

Everyone saw this coming...apart from those who run our game.

I can see the ECB giving this a couple more years and chopping it.

Stupid idea that's on the verge of bankrupting domestic cricket in this country.

I can see the end on the horizon, this selling of the family silver was always the last act of a completely desperate governing body.

The mad thing is, I think anyone on this forum could’ve managed the thing better than the organisers have. It seems like everything they touch turns to absolute shit, right from Day 1 they were f*cking things up and making ridiculous farcical decisions when the most common sense approach would’ve been the best option time and time again. For example, things like not even protecting local stars for their local franchises was utterly braindead and moronic.

That’s the trouble when they alienated counties, that split was never going to work, had to spread the England players evenly as they weren’t doing to give the Leeds team stokes, root, bairstow, rashid and wood at the time, with the Welsh team
Having no one

I’d have gone 3 groups of 6 play 5 group games, top 2 from each group and 2 best placed 3rd places, quarter final and a finals day, even if it was still 16.4 format for a rebrand

Nobody wants it though, literally nobody. We’re the only country that has entertained the idea of playing it and it’s completely braindead.

India, Australia, the internationals - nobody wants it.

It was a mistake making a short format franchise or not 100 balls not T20.

Surely T20 doesn’t take that much longer.

A English premier league T20 franchise league would probably have still alienated county supporters.

But changing it to 100 balls rather 20 overs was a step too far and increased further criticism

They'd have been better off making it an exhibition format - possibly like the Barbarians in rugby - with an invitational or 'rest of the world' XI. Wouldn't need the commitment of IPL for one-off matches as part of international tours.

I think the objective all along was to invent something they could sell, make packets of dosh for some.

I think he's limited to one call a week.......
Its like inventing the front loading video player in the 80's, forgetting to patent it and then inventing the betamax instead and expecting it to make money.

Spot on Brandon.
An epic failure, the sooner it ends the better.
The half wits who introduced this format need binning too.

Jos Buttler withdrawing from the 16.4 now.

Thise article is behind a pay wall but what you can see gives you the gist of it.
