Could be a few factors from, the Lorient team were what he inherited and he wants fresh, they can’t get visas, they don’t speak good enough English, to they don’t want to come or might have a high cost to release.

He’s doing the right thing in looking at the strengths of what we have got as he shapes the roles and responsibilities he wants in the coaching team, then recruit in to the gaps.

I do strongly feel he needs his own selected lieutenant though, who is going to be objective to the status quo.

Does not matter if they were in a permanent position or not.
Fact is Dodds has shown no leadership qualities and has stated he is ‘one of the boys’ .
This should NOT involve a role as Head Coach or Assistant Manager.

Would you rather have an assistant head coach who was pally with the players, or one who the players had a bit of fear of? Players who sense weakness and an attitude of ‘he’s mates with us’ generally take the piss.

You want a head coach and assistant who are ‘a friend, but not a best friend.’ There needs to be a certain amount of ‘I don’t wanna piss these two off’ about them, with the players.

Assistant Manager:
1. Assist in the coordination and supervision of the Football program and team.
2. Promote an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
3. It is normal for the Head Coach to be preoccupied with other activities and therefore it is essential he has a right hand man to provide Leadership qualities during his absence.

You hate Dodds as he was placed in caretaker charge

You have no idea if he is a good coach or not

Since he has arrived a lot of good young players have improved

You've just decided thats got nothing to do with him, on no evidence at all havent you?

Do you know how to read or do you get your parents to read to you?
If it is the latter, ask them to read some of my other posts and you will discover I have no issues with Dodds as a coach but do not rate him as a Assistant or Head Coach, something I am not really alone in thinking.

But he is literally hiring his own staff inlcuiding an Assistant

I just think Dodds gets too much stick IMO and seems like a good coach who all the players rate

If RLB actually chooses them will be interesting. I’d imagine Speakman will have a lot of input into those hires.

I think the ideal situation for most people is he hires a second-in-command, some other specialist coaches — for example set pieces — and then Dodds is an additional coach. Ideally, at our level, you’d have one coach specialising in defence and another in attack.

Ideally, the bloke RLB brings in as his assistant is someone he already knows and trusts. It’s hard enough starting a job as a head coach not knowing any players. Starting a head coach job not knowing any of the staff makes it a lot harder.

RLB doesn’t want anyone like that according to the reports

I just hope that he does get to bring in a more experienced assistant alongside him.

I do keep hearing that the players rate Dodds but that wasn’t really in evidence last season.
Can you put your hand on your heart and say the players played for him while he was head coach?
Didn’t appear that way to me.

I don’t care if they did, he’s not a head coach and never will be. That was speakmans fault
