Smith not Robinson to keep wicket

Yeah Robinson certainly deserves a place, just extremely unlucky they have a very special long term prospect they want to put ahead of him.
I'd get the argument if he was keeping but he isn't could we not play both if pope fails with consistency
I’ve had a pop along to the Oval today. Hoping Smith bats 3 in the absence of Pope, but right now I’m being entertained by Sibley and Burns
Are you not dozing off

Debate between Robinson and Smith is a good and fair one based on current numbers & roles at respective counties versus future projections and England potential. Would have loved to see another Durham player selected but do also highly rate Smith and his potential so I’m indifferent on the pick between them.

The conversation as to whether Foakes is test match calibre or not however is a non-starter. He is. Comfortably. Test match 100s and 50s prove more than capable with bat. Widely regarded as one of the best glovemen in the game internationally not just for England.

Whether he is the right fit for this current England team or not is a very different question and because of points made about not being so convincing when batting with the tail I could be convinced to look at alternative keeping selections. But the suggestion he isn’t ‘good enough’ in either faecet to play test cricket is downright wrong I’m afraid.

Doesn’t he average something really low second innings

Probably aye, he isn't perfect, but you'd struggle to get someone doing better

Do only 2nd innins count like/

Fair play I agree with all of this apart fromt he Foakes thing, I think he struggles against high quality pace bowling myself.
