CC : Essex v Durham

Ludicrous that they increased the points for a draw back to eight this season which just encourages negative play from teams like Essex.
Was just thinking this earlier.

Probably a bit negative of Essex but the points system doesnt incentivise teams enough to go for victory.

At the same time, Glamorgan were pushing for victory about half an hour ago and now probably regretting it and now hanging on for a draw with 8 northants fielders around the batsman. Much more entertaining.

That was painful but our bowlers weren't really threatening and I can't think of a reason why De Leede wasn't used more.

I presume Coggers will be available for the next match and maybe it's time to start thinking of introducing a youngster, whoever is showing more potential. Stan or Ollie or Hogg.

Edit:

Forget it, GMN1F beat me to it 🤪

I fully agree, but atleast the 16 points we’ll get from the game is a more deserving reward for our efforts and our dominance than 11 would’ve been under the old rules.

If we can turn Worcestershire over next week, we’ll not be a million miles away from launching an assault on the top of the table when the leaves begin to turn.

There's a guy called Stokes available for the next game.

I'd rather we had a go at this time of the season. Obviously if we needed 10 points or something daft to win a title when fair enough do what is needed but this time of the season like if Blackpool, I'd like to see us have a go regardless. Hate boring cricket

Agreed. Dunno why they changed it. I liked it last year, encouraged attacking batting.
It was doing a bit yesterday.

It was but was canny flat when I watched today. Maybe the roller helped. We were a bit done in tbf it’s been a hot week

I only watched the stream on Sunday and for the rest of the game I have just been getting score updates. But overall I get the distinct impression that we’ve dominated this game but just couldn’t finish it off. As far as I could tell Essex were never in with a sniff and had no intention of going for a win. Very odd attitude considering their second top. As far as I’m concerned if there’s the slightest chance of winning you go for it, if it doesn’t come off that’s just the way it goes. No guts. No glory.

They did the same at the Riverside earlier in the season. I said at the time that if Durham had been in that position, they’d have gone for it.
