Regis le Bris - confirmed

Good luck to the bloke, I hope he does well here.

However, KLD suggesting we’ve been tracking him for some time is nothing short of pathetic.

Was it the winless run in the final 10 games or so, or the relegation that convinced KLD he was the man? And why wait 4 months if we knew he was the right man for the job?
We were tracking him the previous season when his team finished above Will Still's.

Mind you, that shows they were undermining Tony Mowbray which they denied.

We've got to get behind him, hasn't got much time to get his feet under the table.
Mind you, he's the first safc manager in 60 odd years I've never heard of😉.

It's good to have a manager- does he speak English?
Any decent free transfers available from the French league? You'd assume he'll be allowed to make one Dack type signing of his own

It really doesn’t, I’d expect them to be monitoring candidates all the time. It avoids any lengthy delays when you need to appoint a new manager, so worked perfectly.
If they had been monitoring him they would have known he has had a poor record for most of his time at Lorient.
After countless failed attempts at getting in a manager, why would he change the model for who is 6th-7th choice?
Desperation?

TBF it's such an obvious lie that even if it's true, he should have been savvy enough not to say it.
Just let him get on with it (I'm actually pretty positive about the appointment)- I was more worried about them bringing some youth coach in.

It doesn’t mind, given they’ve openly said they’re tracking future managers. A big difference between “tracking” someone and actually approaching them.

Kristjaan stock quote the old "aligned" innit.
I have a bug bear about “aligned to our identity”. Speakman mentions identity repeatedly and yet has deliberately never defined it

Were he to define it, we would have something to judge signings and performances against. And a better understanding of why the club buy certain players or coaches

I think it’s a root issue behind a lot of questions about the club - and if we could get a decision of what Speakman means when he says “identity” we could then fairly and accurately judge a lot of what the club does against that

Didn’t they hire some consulting company to work it out a few years ago?
They have appointed such a variety of head coaches it’s hard to think they are doing so against some kind of identity.

Precisely, which is why the fans should be told what the decided identity of their club is

Isn’t that what they have done? Barring 2 seasons at 48
That's still two full seasons though tbf. Considering that we were linked with actual youth coaches (who habe never managed) and our last full time coach had never even lasted a full season anywhere- its a marked improvement.

Is it? When those two seasons ended in failure and for the vast majority of it weren’t very good?

Are you suggesting we we weren’t tracking him and we’ve just appointed a manager that we have no knowledge of?

“we’ve been tracking him for some time” is a bit of a meaningless statement. I’m sure the club, being in the football business, is aware of what other people in the football business are doing. Of those managers we are aware of who have impressed, have potential, fit with what we want and how we want to play and develop, we have drawn up a shortlist of potential appointees. We have then probably approached them all and whittled the list down by various means (he doesn’t want to come, he wants too much money, he won’t work with Dodds, he’s staying at Bayern Munich, he’s going to Lens, etc) until we’ve ended up with one who is willing to take the job under our conditions and we are happy to appoint. I don’t think there’s any mystery or conspiracy to it. This has unsurprisingly taken 4 months. Not ideal but completely understandable given the process.

He only got relegated once TBF. He apparently had all his best players sold as well. I mean they can't have thought that badly of him considering they never sacked him.
