Regis le Bris - confirmed

While I had never really heard of him, he fits the brief pretty well. Over a decade as head of youth development, before transferring that experience to a good first season in management.

Like a French Dodds, but with a successful season under his belt.
...and a relegation.

Relegated from the French top flight, I thought they were relegated from ligue 2 the way some have been going on.

Be like us appointing one of the 3 managers that got relegated from the prem, which Bayern Munich did.
First of all, the French top flight is some distance behind the EPL. Secondly, did he get them promoted to the top flight in his fledgling years as a coach. Third of all, has he got any experience in leading teams to trophies?

No comparison at all really but the happy clappers will eat the shit that the club spoon feeds them

...and a relegation.
I would be less worried about the relegation and more concerned about the reasons stated as to why. All his best players were sold, and a bunch of big name mercenaries came in that messed up the dressing room. The manager fell out with the board and wanted to control transfers, didn't get his way, and it all went to shit.

It all comes down to the window now. While I will probably be shouted down, we have the core of a good side. A good DM and a striker with some other quality sprinkled in and he will have the tools he needs. If he doesn't get that, it probably doesn't matter how good a manager he is.

I wonder how he made the "5 man shortlist"

He didn’t. If there was an actual five man shortlist, and Downie had known, he’d have reported on that a while ago.

The “five man shortlist, this guy was always one of them” line, is blatantly just what the club has fed to Downie today. It’s to give Speakman a bit of cover for the press conference, in which he won’t want to tell the truth.

“We made such a colossal arse of the recruitment process, that in the end we just panicked and settled for this fella”.
