Greek Island Holiday Help

Kefalonia - preferred Skala to Lassi, which we found to be a bit soulless (nice beaches, though). The capital, Argostoli, is within easy walking distance of Lassi - get there about midday to see the giant turtles in the harbour feeding on the scraps thrown overboard from the fishing boats. Can also get a ferry across the bay to Lixouri, which is also nice although we did see a barcode full-kit w@nker there in the main square;

Kos - Both Kos Town and Kardamena were excellent - bit weird seeing the 'ghost' streets in Kardamena where all the old club 18-30-style bars used to be. Went during the Covid restrictions when there was a midnight curfew on the bars and restaurants. Nobody must have told the hotel owner in Kos Town because we regularly sat out until three or four in the morning in the hotel bar along with all the other residents. No such luck in Kardamena - they were much more strict. Just went out earlier;

Lefkada - Nidri is very nice. No flights from Newcastle, though - had to fly from Edinburgh.

Been to Crete twice, thoroughly enjoyed it but the last time I was there was around 2007.
Is the toilet situation still the same that you cant flush loo roll and it has to go in the bin ?
I also remember some weird metal floor trough toilets in one of the bus stations :eek: :lol:

Nidri is nice and great for boat excursions to other islands

Love Lefkada.

Just to add I did a flotilla holiday our of Syvota and we visited 6 islands over 7 days including Ithaca, meggasinni and others I can remember. Some stunning little harbours

What's the situation with toilet nowa'days?
Our lass (you wouldn't) refuses to go cos you weren't allowed to flush the paper down the toilet.

i was in Kos last week and was told there are around 50 bars open again in kardamena , i went in 2021 as well and wasnt that many

Get round the bay from Nidri into Syvota.

Lovely

I stayed a week in some tip notch apartments in the edge of town
Iris hotel apartments . Can't recommed enough. They have the flotillas stay there and some crew linger

Also rent little boats to do your own visits to the islands
We stayed in agios nikitas (three times). Very very quiet. Toured most of the island with a hire car.Stopped in a gorgeous villa first time. Was our 25th wedding anniversary so splashed the cash.Got the ferry over to meganisi and missed the last one back.Had to book a hotel for the night. Haven't been for a long time. Have to go back soon.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions and advice, really looking forward to going there now. We had our honeymoon in Lake Garda, where we'd never been before, and loved it so it was suggested we go back there, but no one in the family has been to Greece before either so the thrill of something entirely new has won out. Cheers, SMB folk.

I was in kardemena few years ago just before covid. Stayed up at blue domes which is nice but went into town most nights. The square with stone roses bar was decent but the strip running off it with all the little late night places were not for me. Maybe 25-30 years ago.

Ah, that's a bit disappointing, to be honest.

It was just nice when we were there, not too many places but enough, if you know what I mean.
He may of meant bars and food places , i never went in this time
