Greek Island Holiday Help

Oh wise SMB, we have decided, heatwave and dead TV presenters notwithstanding, that we will be going to visit a Greek island this Summer, but having never been before we have no real idea as to where to go.

The main criteria are that it has to be picturesque, near the water and have plenty of decent tavernas / restaurants where we can sit preferably by a lovely harbour or somesuch and relax with nice local seafood etc. But no thumping house beats from local bars, no cheesy cafes advertising a full bloody english for 5 euros, don't want it to be too built up, and so on. Think Malcesine on Lake Garda but shifted to Greece. Any ideas based on good experiences, anyone?

Kalami is lovely on Corfu - small, picturesque and a few lovely beach front tavernas with a couple more you can only get to by boat (the tavernas run them obvs) - 10 min to kassiopi aswell

Malia strip

If you want something small and friendly take a look at Agios Gordios on Corfu. From a taverna perspective there are some crackers on the beach to watch the sun setting on an evening
We're going to go back to Greece next year, just had a little look at this on Trip Advisor, looks really nice. No prizes for guessing the 1st and possibly only football top on show on the travellers pictures....🙄

What type of accommodation are you looking for? Poros on Kefalonia May fit the bill. We had lunch at a table on the pebbly beach at a restaurant yesterday with the water about five feet away.
