MATCH THREAD: Durham v Leicester Foxes 🦊

Had Raine, Robinson, Potts, Coughlin batted sensibly like Clark did we would have won the game.

You’re being really really silly now in this pursuit of defending Clark.

When Raine strode to the crease we needed 9 an over, Coughlin came to the crease in the 18th over and was caught on the boundary as the rate was about to touch 10 an over and Potts came in with 15 needed off 7 balls (that’s a RRR of 12.5 an over).

There’s no such thing as ‘batting sensibly’ in those scenarios if you’re actually trying to win the hame. Unless I’ve totally misunderstood what the term ‘sensible’ means?
Coughlin for example thinking he's Botham trying to smash it when he didn't need to. Raine giving his wicket away last ball of the over when the runs were done with for that over. Potts again cheap. We didn't need to smash it about.

Again, see above. Some incredible mental gymnastics going on from you.

When you need 10 an over, you absolutely have to smash it like Botham. Potts lost his wicket to the first ball he faced, but what do you expect a bloke to do when you need 12.5 an over?
Poor batting under pressure by our lower middle order they are expeirenced to know that hitting the ball over the top wasn't the way to go especially with a recognised batsman still in.

Similar mental gymnastics to GMN1F.

‘Hitting the ball over the top’ is kind of what T20 is about wayne. Especially when you need upwards of 8 an over in the closing stages.
Really disappointing from the likes of Raine, Coughlin and Potts.

Can’t believe how many people are falling for this
This & this. The shots by Raine and Coughlin were absolutely ridiculous and that's not the fault of Graham Clark. Had they batted sensibly to the game situation we would have won it

They batted EXACTLY to the game situation

I'll stand by my view. Coughlin came to the crease at 17.0 when we needed 24 off 18 which is a decent position to be in and certainly not a position where he needed to pretend he was Ian Botham. He faced 4 balls and scored 2 runs, that's poor.

There is such a thing as "batting sensibly" just Durham on the whole don't seem to know how to do it. Leicestershire batted more than sensibly and as a poster above mentioned, I believe they knew they had done well when they came off that field half way through.

Ben Raine also scored 2 off 4 balls.

Others need to step up as they're not contributing enough with the bat and it's not good enough.

Which is all that he needed to do.

Wait what? When chasing 7 an over, all he needed to do was score at under 6 an over for the entirety of the 20 overs??

Think about what you’re typing man.

How is that tactic going to win cricket matches?
He pissed people off inside the club... allegedly

Well, people need to be more professional and less f*cking petty.
Graham Clark wasn't the reason we lost the game tonight.

For the record, I’m not saying he was.

He (Coughlin) didn't need to try and smash it out the park. Rotating the strike is all that was needed. Raine's shot was also pathetic.

which is nowt. It didn't require that shot. see it out to the last over and give us a chance needing around 10.

It isn’t ‘nowt’ like. Especially not on a pitch where your opponent has gone at 7 an over and you are only at around 6.5 an over from 85% of your overs.

Earlier you said ‘rotation’ was needed. So are you genuinely saying that ‘rotation’ gets you home when you need 9 an over?

Yup. Had we done that I'd have had no concerns Clark/Coughlin/Raine/Potts seeing it over the line. 9 an over isn't pressure in T20 cricket with wickets in hand.

we needed 8 an over from the last 3 overs, that doesn't require smash about cricket

Out of interest, what required run rate would you suggest is a time for ‘smash about cricket’?

Depends how many balls you have left. You don't need to smash it about needing 24 off 18 though with 5 wickets remaining I think it was? A run a ball for two overs would leave you needing 12 and over and even during those two overs I'm fairly confident there would have been opportunities of running two which would have brought the required rate down to less than 12 in the last over.

Well regardless whether Durham won or lost but turned up tonight to watch a game of T20 on a tricky two paced wicket and huge boundaries. Both batting teams basically knocked it about unless it was a rank bad ball.
Not sure why Durham continues with this policy but its not what t20 is about. The attendence wasn't as bad as what it looked like it was going to be half an hour before play but it was as flat as a fart. If they continue to produce wickets like that and boundaries that big then the lack of t20 entertainment will continue. Mind the temperature didnt help.
First time ive been to a 20 game and you are right it was lifeless.....the game was always in the balance but you could sense the crowd knew Durham were going to blow it. It was very similar to watching Sunderland at the back end of last season

I'm saying nowt else
Probably just as well as you’re inventing statistics, Clark and Lees opened and from over one we were behind the required rate, this gradually increased throughout the innings (surprisingly) and you suggest that we would have got home batting sensibly until the end, have a look at the figures.

How many overs in our innings did we score ten or more?

When he played that shot we actually needed over 9 an over.
Mate I tell you what’s getting a bit tedious. It’s every single match thread how you won’t accept a slight bit of criticism. I’d understand if we were the Man City of cricket but we aren’t. We are dreadful at T20 and the ever dwindling crowds show that. There is a lot of work needed.

crowd was never going to be great on cold overcast wednesday night, which for a lot in county Durham is a junior cricket night too, terrible cricket doesnt help either mind
