Martí Cifuentes

By Alan Nixon
Sunderland will have to pay a hefty compensation fee for QPR boss Marti Cifuentes.
The Black Cats have switched their managerial search around dramatically in the last few days with the Spaniard a favourite of leading figures at the club.
But Rangers will ask for a six figure fee for Cifuentes and Sunderland would have no option but to fork out.
Dutchman Pascal Jansen has strangely slipped out of the race after a meeting last week.
And Liam Rosenior also spoke with the seven man interview panel but is comfortable waiting on offers.
Sunderland seem to have many opinions within their ranks with one experienced official keen on St Mirren’s Stephen Robinson and Stockport rising star Dave Challinor.
The saga has also seen Bo Svensson go elsewhere and the elusive Will Still failed to commit either.
In the past Sunderland boobed badly with Michael Beale while the appointment of Tony Mowbray was down to their chief scout knowing him from Blackburn Rovers.
This chase has included input from adviser and Sky Sports pundit Dave Jones. Despite all of this expertise they are yet to get their man.

6 figures is nowt if they’re serious about him.

Could be apparent we’ve dropped Jansen for him if we end up paying compo for him because you’d think we wouldn’t pursue him if he wasn’t interested and we weren’t happy with the fee
7 man panel fuck me is it any the wonder
Absolute joke

Seven man interview panel?!

Hang on 7 man interview panel, who can that possibly consist of?
Get 7 people on any footballing matter ask their opinion on it it’s usually chaos getting people to agree on things
This lot sat their still shifting through their shortlist
What a bizarre setup
Clubs at our level and below it seems smooth process
What process have we got seems impossible to get a manager in
Shocking

Equally people have been saying Speakman shouldn’t be running the show. It provides some counterbalances. It’s feasible that for a big decision there are some focusing on different aspects of the role or the process. First interview 4, second interview 3 perhaps? Some focusing on due diligence, some finances and contracts, some recruitment, some coaching. Could be anything but, that won’t convince people to leave the queue on wearmouth bridge

I’ve had interview panels that big for considerably less impressive jobs
