Dave Challinor - managerial rumour

Starting to think any manager that comes here will just see the job as quick way to make a few quid when they get sacked in a few months.
With the current model of only buying kids and people in charge of the club being unwilling to take even the slightest risk, it is virtually impossible to be a success here.
Tbh, I think if we end up with a sensible manager, we could probably be competitive enough in the league. Mowbray did it.

You did say he might get a top end league 1 job and then ignored that part when you replied like.
But hey this is all irrelevant because I've still got some confidence that our lot won't even consider someone like Challinor.

Aye. Cause he might get a job for a club targetting promotion to The Championship. He might also get a job in The Championship. I imagine that's what he's aiming for. What else do you want me to say? It seems inevitable that he will, especially if he carries on at his rate.

It'd be canny irresponsible of them to ignore someone with his credentials, especially when looking at the likes of Rob Edwards' and Luke Williams' recent appointments.

Wonder why no one else from the EFL has had a look at him before.

Anyway you started the thread, so seem keen on him coming in but let's hope not eh.

Could say the same about Rob Edwards and Luke Williams, to be fair.

I started the thread cause he's suddenly 10/1 out of nowhere. I'd have plenty other managers over him. I don't see it as the end of the world if we appoint him, and I think it'd be decent enough.

Shame I have no faith in the club, and fully expect a Rosenior-esque appointment.

I’d have thought most Sunderland fans would be aware of him because of the incident against Tranmere when he was subbed off but stayed on the pitch!
I couldn't remember the details, good doctor, but it seems Challinor wasn't involved in the sending off/substitution incident.

He was mate he was due to come off but stayed on.

In the moments preceding the incident, Tranmere were lining up a sub – Stephen Frail replacing Dave Challinor.

However, as the dismissed Hill exited the field, Frail entered... and Challinor stayed on.

Oh, looks like I got it wrong again. That said, surely the 'sin' was Aldridge's (compounded by match official incompetence)? As a matter of interest only, did they have the wrong number of players for a minute or so, or was it longer? You would think a replay would have been in order but apparently not!
He was the player who was meant to be subbed off.
Cheers, Doc. The Bin has purruz reet (see above)!

You are saying that as if Maric, Still and Wicky are top class coaches. They have nothing on their CV to show they are proven experienced managers. They are potential coaches but then so is Challinor.
Yes he has only managed at lower level but he has been successful at every club he has been at.
Each one carries a risk but I don’t see Challinor being any more of a risk as Maric who has only managed at youth level.

I didn’t say top class I said prominent. The point being the club have seemingly prioritised getting in a coach of this ilk.

To go from this type of appointment to Challinor just wouldn’t make sense.

There is nothing to suggest the club are in for this bloke or even the one from St Mirren. I have seen no genuine newspaper reports other than rumours. But if you are going for prominent candidates but you can’t get them then you have to change your options.
I just hope whoever it is gets to bring his own assistant with him otherwise I can see no progress regardless.

Apart from the fact that Rob Edwards has spent two seasons managing in non-leagues and Dave Challinor has spent all but two seasons managing in non-leagues, you're exactly right.
What does that even mean? The highest level he'd managed prior to going to Watford was league 2, which he won with FGR.
