Saw him on the first morning of the Somerset game adopting the traditional Franklin/North default position of being on his mobile as he walked past various Ned Ludds.

This is a chance for our members to meet and pose questions to Durham players and staff, which will be hosted by our in-house commentator Ash Thorpe.
Chief Executive Tim Bostock, Director of Cricket Marcus North plus Scott Borthwick, Ashton Turner and Ben Dwarshuis will be in attendance.

I - as a member - attended with other members the members forum for members only.
Mr Bostock was in attendance. He explained the Luddite comments attributed to him as somewhat out of context. He made the comments to a gentleman without being aware that that the said gentleman was writing a book and that quotes from himself were to be included. He did not withdraw the comments and still feels that members who are resistant to any changes do not serve the game well as far as sustainability is concerned. He extended the label to some other chief executives and even more so to county chairmen (as a gentleman of a certain age, I refuse to use the gender neutral term chair - chairs are for sitting on). He has been labelled a Luddite himself by the editor of The Cricketer magazine (I'm not aware of the detail - perhaps someone else can provide). He in turn has labelled said editor as a pompous prick.
The hotel planning application has received an objection from the Environment Agency. Part of the building's footprint encroaches onto the Wear's designated floodplain - although flooding has not been experienced for at least 20 years. The solution is to redesignate the floodplain - at the expense of the applicant - and this is in process.
He is very enthusiastic about securing a 100 franchise and is looking to secure funders. Discussions have taken place with the owners of a football club not far away and they are keen to invest in the region - in the same way that the owners of Manchester City have revitalised that part of Manchester. He is hopeful of a franchise being up and running by 2029.
When asked for his views on the Kookaburra experiment he expressed dissatisfaction with the scheduling this season. Season starting too early and finishing too late. Felt that white ball cricket should be played early doors rather than red ball and that the t20 competition is too long. Felt that the Kookaburra experiment on early season wickets was pointless.
The conclusion of his contribution was met with distinctly lukewarm applause.
Marcus North is mostly occupied at present with the assembly of a squad for the new women's team. My ambivalence to this development turned to cynicism when North's and Paul Collingwood's daughters were mentioned as hot future prospects .Perhaps explains his enthusiasm. Jobs for the girls?
Scott Borthwick gave his views on the season so far. He feels we've played some good cricket at times, presumably acknowledging some not so good cricket at times. He waxed lyrically on Bedingham's and Stokes' contributions. When asked about what he would be doing during the t20 competition he mentioned he was training tomorrow with team mates who were also not participating - Stokes, Siddle and Bedingham were mentioned. He expects to play some second team cricket and some golf.
Turner and Dwarshuis were introduced. Excited to be here, looking forward to playing etc. Ben's name is pronounced Dwaah-shus.
I'm tired now - perhaps someone else can fill in the gaps.

Whist that may be good for the club, i can imagine there will be a lot of objection. If it was just newcastle owners it probably wouldn't be too bad, but its due to who they are.

Been rumblings of this since the end of last year, i have a feeling they will be funding part of the hotel too, are Hilton Saudi owned now or have PIF investment
My best mates kid is in the U13's set up, by all accounts Colly's daughter is absolutley class, Norths is ok but not a stand out
Actually feel a bit sorry for North now, Yorkshires inclusion full stop let alone them getting a team from 2026 will put a spanner in the works for his recruitment plans

North said last night that Yorkshire are a bit in disarray and this has actually helped with recruitment for the women’s team, as Durham have become a better option for the players.

well thats good to hear, i think it was presumed that Durham would mainly inherit the diamonds women, but a large percentage of them are based in leeds, but the dangled carrot of Yorkshire having a team in a year might convince some to stick it out for a year
i think those who are the higher end wouldnt want tier 2 for a year, as they will want to play at the top level, hopefully North can tie some of them into longer deals to step them moving on

Common knowledge he has met with Dan Ashworth previously about Saudi investment. That will be my lot as a Durham member if this happens.
