What has Speakman done to be so hated?

We're just over two years into a five year plan. The natives are just too restless for that.
We want to see progression, how has the last two windows helped the team progress on the pitch. It ended up with Mowbray getting the sack and now Beale who is getting even less out of the players when you look at the performances.
A year without a regular first team striker.

Marvellous...
5 year plan mate 👍

The source of my dissatisfaction is not the recruitment policy per se it is the imbalance in the squad - too many AM's - no CDM no replacement RW (Ba is not a RW and neither is Rusyn) an out and out CF apart from Hemir who may come good but is just a young lad. This is on Speakman.

I would've tried negotiating with M'Vila, he'd have been perfect.

The club isn’t going in the right direction though it’s going backwards and fast. We had half a season under alex neil where we got promoted and yes last season overall was a success but when we lost simms and stewart to injury around xmas time last January was the time when an ambitious or decent owner would have got us a decent striker and we probably would have made top two. Since then we have been trying to tread water. The last few windows have been disgraceful. Speakman maybe has his hands tied in the transfer market but the beale appointment and the ‘best training i’ve ever seen’ quite sum him up for me
I guess it depends on what people are using to measure our progress.

I’m taking from when he was appointed back in 2020 to where we are now, I think objectively we’re in a better place.

I think the suggestion that we are going backwards is based on a projection for many, ie that we are going to finish in a worse position than we did last year, which is only an opinion currently. There’s also the consideration that even if we did finish just outside the play offs, as to whether it’s a more competitive season this year than last.

It could just be a bad patch in an otherwise fairly decent period. I agree the last few windows have been disappointing but I think getting a striker like Stewart is a very difficult task.

Again I don’t feel too strongly either way re Speakman, but I think the stick he gets is quite disproportionate and we don’t seem to allow people to have bad spells.

Following the transfer (playing and non playing staff) debacles and rangerovergate, this man has a carefully cultivated reputation for development but the only development Im seeing is his own personal financial status and the contents of beales garage. If we dont go up its a disgrace, he needs to adopt a new approach asap.

Left one of the biggest clubs in England a laughing stock by signing a load of sick and injured weaklings in the hope that some of them generate a profit while shoehorning Jobe Bellingham into the starting 11 because he is bigger than his famous brother.

And he’s signed nee strikers and wasted all the money.

Blatantly picks the starting 11 too.
Spot on mate

He's signed some exciting young players, managed to get 10 mil for a crock with only a year left on his contract, got out of league 1 then the next season immediately in the championship play offs under him. We are moving in the right direction under him after languishing in league 1 for years. He has made a number of mistakes in a short period of time in the last couple of months, but overall he is doing a good job IMO
His team selections at times last season have been shocking.

Dodging the striker priority for several windows when it's blatantly obvious a massive gaping hole in the squad that needs filling, that coupled with the Beale debacle is enough for some people I think.

Nothing much really, only thing i'd like to see is him going back to bringing in young British talent, or foreign players that are already at British clubs and know what it is all about, other than that he's done well as you say.

He's far to involved in day to day things. He's happy to take the praise but knows the head coach takes the flak if his recruitment is poor.

This summer is huge for him, KLD and the club

Player....................Age.........................Capped...............................Contract length

Pembele.................21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Seelt.....................20...................................................................5 years.
Trantis...................20..........................Australia u-23........................4 years.
Bellingham..............18..........................England u-19.........................5 years.
Aouchiche...............21..........................France u-20..........................5 years.
Semedo..................20..........................Portugal u-20........................5 years.
Mayenda.................18..........................Spain u-17...........................5 years.

The young players signed in the Summer, and there was a good few more of a similar ilk already signed previously.

This is what is being invested in, the length of the contracts, and the number of players at the club of a similar age and with a similar contract length show how hard it would be to reverse the project, even if the club decided to.
Thats fine but they shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team at this point except we have no option but to play them. That’s why we often play like it’s boys against men and it’s obvious to everyone except the likes of Speakman.

He did very well at first, but that was it. The last three transfer windows have been a joke and we have suffered for it. From play offs last season to relegation form in the second half of this season.
