Finally after all the rain I managed to get some work done myself this week/weekend.
Tomatoes in the polytunnel, beetroot directly sown, windowsill started peas in and some directly sown, felt great to be there in the sun at last.

My potatoes have popped out of the ground, beetroot and spring onions going in next weekend. Got my plot inspection on the 2nd June but looking at some of the other plots, should sail through.

Nightmare this morning.
I didn't cover my cabbages or sprout plants that I put into the ground last week.
Feckin' wood pigeons have had a good chomp away at them.
So just as a reminder, put netting over young brassicas in or to keep those bastards out.

I inherited a storage box full of 2 litre pop bottles with the bottom cut off. I presume these are used for protecting brassicas? Strawberry plants seem to be doing really well.

Hardened off and planted yesterday.
In better light, I found they had a code written on the container - and a piece of paper was tucked into one of them in the tray with the full names. So I was able to figure them out (cordon or not). So they are now planted intermittently and I have a record of which is which.
Frame went up around them too, need to run string round it all another day.
Some peppers, chillis and cucumbers went in too. Need to start my lettuce, spring onions and coriander plants off, might just direct sow this time as a trail.
ALSO - Help please. Any idea why my raspberries look all shrivelled up and knackered? Could it be frost damage - we did have a cold few nights quite a while after it had already put leaves out? If so, what can I do about it?

Trying carrots in a raised planter too (only have a yard), did that today but think I may have started too late?
Watched a few videos on YouTube but the comments seem to be people saying they followed them but didn't work. Will just have to wait and see I guess. I'm dead impatient wh n I take on a new interest so haven't exactly picked a good one

I feel your pain. Planted a load of pointy cabbages on Friday and called down not long ago to see a couple of wood pigeons having a feast. They’ve pulled a couple out and chomped the rest, netted the ones I put back. Complacently on my part not doing it in the first place.
Put some exhibition onions and Crown Prince in when I was down. Got some Halloween pumpkins and corgettes coming on inside that I’ll put in through the week.

Autumn fruiting.
Yeah, I cut them back. They grew new stems and were about 70cm high, then the leaves grew nicely.
One day I noticed they were all curled up, and I think it might have been a couple of weeks after a cold snap we had a while back.
I've since read it could be due to too much water in the ground, which fits seeing as how wet its been this last 6 months. Also could be lack of nitrogen or too high pH. So I've just fed and thrown down some sulfur chips I had left over.
They're not in an especially bright spot, so I was thinking of moving them too?

cauliflowers and sprouts, plant as normal and as the get bigger (around 12") heel them in around the base. It gives compact firm heads to the caulis and tight firm sprouts.
Also use club root powder in each planting hole, and a brassica collar around each plant stem (prevents cabbage root fly) cheap on ebay and Amazon.

What variety are those? The ones I put in raised beds were a failure but the ones in the ground produced canny numbers.
My garlic has been a massive disappointment this year and unless things improve it looks like my tomatoes will be too. Nothing seems to have done well at all this year tbh.

No fruit on my pear and plum trees this year. The plum tree was laden last year.

Nicola. I thought the Charlotte were going to be ready to pull first but they are still going strong.
We’ve got some plums showing but no apples on the other tree.
