BA sale now on

I'm fancying that over xmas hols this year

It was great. Short-ish flight, compact city centre, decent value and warm enough to sit outside in a t-shirt during the day but you needed a coat in the evenings. Wouldn't be against doing it again but I'd prefer somewhere different.

Malta maybe? Tenerife would be great but Christmas is always expensive there for flights and accommodation. SE Asia or Carribean would be too far and will have to wait for a year I have more time available.

Madeira, isn't that where old people go?

There's stuff to do for all ages mate. We did active stuff and I was the oldest person on the canyoning trip!

Check the hotel reviews though. One hotel on my shortlist was described as like a retirement home on the reviews so that was crossed off the list 😂

As a very rough guide, the old town seemed more suited to younger people and the Lido seemed more touristy and more popular with older people. We were in the old town and loved it.

Also the double TP offer on package deals has been extended again

We struck lucky with that this year, that and the changing of the Year start dates.

Had a big holiday this this month that got us 280 tier points each, double offer takes to 560 & puts us 40 off Silver. That needs to be done before year end date of 8th June and would get us Silver till July 25

But, with their alignment of collection dates plan, ours is moved to April 25, meaning we'd lose 2 months, so they are allocating anything collected from April - June this year towards it.... which just so happens to be when we got the big lump...so with that 40 points we'll do before June this year, that'll be 600 and by my reckoning, that'll be Silver till July 26.....I think!

I knar it's only lounge access and pre-booking seats, but both make a big difference especially for nowt...

Yes, BA Silver status is worth having and is reasonably achievable if you know some of the tricks of the scheme. I manage to maintain it most years but I've never got close to being Gold. You really have to be doing long haul in business class regularly to get there.

Last year I got 320 points for a CE flight to Tenerife with a 5 day hire of the cheapest car possible which I then "forgot" to pickup so that was 160 more points for an extra £80. Considering how much G&T I had in the lounge and on the flight it would have been illegal for me to drive anyway. They have apparently closed that loophole and you must pickup the car but I'm not convinced that BA's antiquated IT systems would be able to detect it happening so I'm going to try again this summer.

The change to the new collection years has been a little confusing but I only moved one month from May to April so it hasn't affected me too much. My my fear with the change is that everyone is going to be chasing status at the same time each year now which could push up prices in March and April.

We don't use generally CC's so never really felt the benefit of that.....tended to usually manage to be bronze which is canny for earlier seat selection and boarding, but we've just had a stroke of luck with the offer, timing of the holiday and BA changing collection periods.

There's no way we'd get Silver based on normal use so will enjoy it while it lasts :)

Aye it's a canny bit effort, and we're having to send the Mrs (£1.99) to that London business class to get the 40 points needed....she's going anyway, but would have been LNER had we not needed the points before June.

Nice the double TP has been extended again, helps with next years race to silver/gold! TP year ends 5th Jan for us this time, so thats another 6 months at double TP to get going for next year, nice!

Nowt booked yet in the sale, but we will. Always decent sales with BA.

I've been looking at various options but nothing has tempted me yet. The exact same flight and hotel combo which I booked last year is £200 more in this sale.

I think things have just "gone up" so this sale gives a bit more saving again. But, you are right, we are basically just winding back the clock!
