Peter Siddle to Durham

This is banana man’s record more than useful over here

Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket, has acted quickly in securing Siddle as a replacement. The 39-year-old is no stranger to county cricket, following stints with Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Essex and, most recently, Somerset. Across all four clubs he boasts 189 wickets at an average of 22.98 - including 16 at 24.12 at Taunton last season.

Took 27 at 23.92 in 2022 from 8 games for Somerset as well.

People talking about Siddle like @Keith S30S did about Jimmy four years ago.

People always seem to forget our best success has come when inspiring our homegrown talent by playing alongside experienced, established international quality cricketers.

Or should we go down the SAFC route and just not try and compete?

This.

The Class of 92 were only successful because they had world class, experienced players around them.

I can’t believe people are even bringing this homegrown thing up again. Our seam bowling corps is more or less entirely homegrown 🤷‍♂️.
Can't get the 1970's Roker End's chant of "Siddle...Siddle...Siddle" .... out of my mind.......

Let’s get it going on Friday

Nothing wrong with this signing.

We'll be forced to rotate Carse and Potts, and we can't trust Coggers to play regularly. Need to be able ease the young seamers in and take them out of the firing line if it doesn't go well

He's a proven player in the CC. Just concerned he'd stand in the way of younger players. Only six matches apparently
Because he bowls fast sh!'te at Stokes and McCullum's behest.
He's always been an impact bowler. Give him the ball he'll either take two wickets or get slogged for eight an over.

But why's he so badly thought of on here?
Because his record for us is really poor. North of 30 in the CC, more than 40 in the Blast.

He's turned himself into a batting all rounder. Which is fine if that's what he wants but we keep getting told his some kind of demon strike bowler, which he isn't. Or he hasn't been so far anyway.

How many genuine England quicks have had good county records?

I can think of Harmison but the likes of Simon Jones and Flintoff had relatively poor FC stats but they were more hit the pitch bowlers same as Carse

Agreed but he needs hard, fast pitches. You don't get them in an English Spring
Goes without saying quicks like hard, fast pitches but he's not done especially badly in April in the past. E.g. 11 wickets in 3 matches last April.

Maybe Atkinson and Wood but they have been wrapped in cotton wool.

A proper quick bowler is like a Ferrari, you don't use it on a daily commute and complain about the fuel consumption.
