Peter Siddle to Durham

I imagine there'll be times when one of that list will play, but I doubt we'd want to find ourselves in the situation of having to throw two in together

probably best not to mention Brandon Glover.... I presume he's still around

Are any of Gibson, McAlindon, Hogg, Robinson, Bushnell good enough though?

If they were they'd get picked it's a simple as that.
My long term comment is more a reflection on the squad rather than the individuals in this case. We seem to have signed a lot of experienced players recently and most of the homegrown players have been around for a long time. I don't see many young players getting opportunities which we've always been good at providing in the past. To me that's a longer term concern because it means we've either shifted to not giving local players an opportunity or we aren't developing good enough youngsters.

We played all but Hogg last season for the first team across 3 formats.

Non of them did much to write home about. Robinson did the best in the T20.

Only Robinson came out of the seconds game against Lancashire with decent bowling figures too.

Who knows if they are good enough though, first season back in Division One I'd rather compete and give them more chances in the One Day Cup.

Will be interesting to see if they sign a T20 blast replacement for Boland, especially as the Siddle statement only seems to mention County Championship games

Yeah, I don't mind that being the case this season. I would get concerned if it's longer term policy to just bring in experienced pros all the time.
That seems a perfectly reasonable tactic in our first season back in Div 1
Yeah, as I said if it's a long term choice it's a concern but certainly for this season I get it.

Coughlin was quality against Worcestershire. People forget just what a prospect he was before his Notts injury nightmare. I'd be disappointed if he missed out to a 39 year old Aussie.

There's no reason he has to. Even if he does, it's 6 games of alternating between him and carse. Not exactly the scrap heap.

People always seem to forget our best success has come when inspiring our homegrown talent by playing alongside experienced, established international quality cricketers.

Or should we go down the SAFC route and just not try and compete?

take it from that that Boland is crocked
was a good player but hes 39, not sure what i make of this signing

Really sad that the Boland experiment hasn’t worked, hope he can overcome his heel issue fairly soon and the sentimental sod in me hopes that maybe we’ll see him again next year.

As for Siddle, I’m not as excited about him as I was for Boland, but it’ll add depth and it’s good to see the club are very active in ensuring we have plenty of bowling options. It’s another bloke familiar with the Kookaburra ball and who knows all about county cricket.

I note that there’s no mention of T20, because Boland was signed for that too - perhaps the club are keen to keep the door open for Boland to return for that if he can get back to fitness?

I'm hoping it means we're picking Bedders and Turner as our overseas players this year. I like the look of this side a lot.

Albeit Carse will likely not be there at the beginning. So one of our young seamers can step up in the interim and everyone moves up one.

Clark
Bedders
Ackermann
Robinson
Turner
Carse
Raine
Potts
Sowter

Had a feeling after last season they would scramble around for an overseas replacement asap.
At least he was still being selected for Victoria towards the end of their domestic season.
Obviously our group of young pace bowlers are not even being considered good enough to be the 4th seamer at the moment.

As long as we don't get Parnell back hahah

is Ackerman not classed as overseas?
No as he got his EU passport exemption well before Brexit.

We managed to get De Leede in on the same rules just before they slammed shut due to Brexit.

We had Boland, Bedingham and Ackermann all playing against Warks. With Bedders and Boland as our maximum 2 permitted overseas players
