This Is Wearside - Poppy Day Display

Good to see but if I’m being picky perhaps a more inclusive name could have been considered for us Sunderland supporters not from wearside.

Like I said I’m being picky and good to see and fair play to the volunteers who are taking it on.

Look like the club have decided to set up with a complete bunch of melts rather than engage with the more organic and laddish/ultras style of SO37

Naturally there’ll be some wet wipes willing to jump in with the club for some attention

Expect club control over all displays and all banners to be soft as fuck. Cringe.

Flags for the women’s team for a start

And then look at the state of them - proper childish

Sorry like but this is a move in the wrong direction for our fan culture, sanitised rubbish as opposed to the more edgy and authentic direction
What was ultra style about the previous ones like? Laddish isn't exactly a great selling point either.
Really shit name too
Aye not as class as the other one

Are the flags drawn free hand or is it a stencil, computer etc. used? Is it the same method so37 used?

We used to use projector, stencil, laptop using software to keep font consistent. Cut from one roll of material and stick to the opposite colour (so white on red or red on white).

Can't comment on the methods used by TIW.

I’m out of the loop but I believe one of the lads who ran SO37 with us wanted to carry it on and I hope they have done.

The flags never “belonged” to SO37 as some came down from Haway the flags, we added a lot to it and now it’s time for the next person/group to try and take it to the next level.

“working with” means the club say what they want and the group either does it or doesn’t.

I can see rainbows and gender equality coming out of our arse next season .

Wonder if these will be allowed to select their displays?

Seen as SO37 were told what they could display.

No anti mag stuff under any circumstances iirc

"Working with the club" means they'll be club puppets. Not for me this type of fan group, needs to be totally independent

Well lots of our fans accused SO37 for stealing and rather than people calling this out just let people keep doing it.

So those morons helped make it worse for everyone.

I'm all for flags, they look great before a game, I've contributed previously, and tge previous lads were treated really poorly.

So I'm pleased someone else is having a go, but jesus, is that even a recognised font they've used? It looks like a banner made by kids for a school play.

If they are putting the work in setting flags up then good on them , but please be careful if designing new ones as they're terrible like. Especially the W and M but guess having no FTM wont create an issue

To be fair, as far as I've seen the group haven't said anything by way of a launch. Hopefully they'll do so at some point and will be able to clarify how they're going to work. Completely agree with you that an atmosphere type group really needs to stay as independent as possible, and not be bothered if they annoy the club a bit along the way. I suppose ultimately if it ends up that this group are a bit soft, for want of a better word (which they might well not be, but just for arguments sake), then either it'll be what people want and it'll succeed, or people won't engage and it won't. And regardless, it's always possible for others to create a more "edgy" group should they so wish.
