I find it incredible that people actually got paid to come up with 'northern spire' .

A total wasted opportunity to advertise sunderland to a wider audience. Should have been the Joseph Swan bridge. He was born about 500 yards away and invented the f***ing light bulb, yet no one outside of Sunderland knows he was from here. Nor do most people who actually live here.
